My 2008 M35 has 70k miles on it. I've noticed for some time now that there is a lot of noise coming from the front of the car, especially as I speed up. It is not the engine (the sound only happens when I'm moving). Its obviously something with the tires or axle. I started noticing the sound after the dealer rotated my tires, I think the sound might be growing because its starting to drive me nuts.

The staring wheel has a slight vibration to it when I'm driving above 65.

The sound is like a moan or roar that oscillates, particularly when I have the wheel turned towards the left.

Anyone have any experience with similar problems and can help me figure out what it might be?

maybe you need to have your tires re rotated or check and see if one of your rims might be slightly bent a little bit, it also can depend on the tires also

Sounds like a failing wheel bearing. I had the same issue. Replaced both, and now quiet.

Yeah, wheel bearings. For me it sounded like a banshee whine.

Yep, gotta be the wheel bearings. The noise gets louder when turning. Did you report the problem to your dealer before 70,000 miles? If so you might get them covered under the power train warranty if you don't have the extended Elite warranty.

like everyone said ... could be wheel bearing....but I don't believe in coincidences... happened right after the tire rotation so look at tires first.... I had a funny noise coming from my rf tire... I changed out both front wheel bearings.. sound was still there..... turned out to be a bad tire.... just my 2©
