For some reason I decided to check the oil on my '08 M35 even though I have less than 300 miles on it - yes three hundred.
There was no oil on the dip stick, and I had to put three quarts in it to bring it up to the full mark. The engine was warm and I let it sit for about ten minutes prior to checking the oil.
There is no evidence of leakage anywhere.
This is the first time that I checked the oil since I brought it home from the dealer. I don't know it it was properly serviced on delivery or not, but unfortunately I don't know now.
I guess that I will have to check it again in about 100 miles and see if there has been any consumption. I have owned many new cars since the middle sixties, and this is the first time that I have ever had an experience like this.
I don't know which is worse - the engine did not have the proper amount of oil from the factory, the dealer delivering it low on oil, or a very bad consumption problem.
The good news is that I have been very careful to observe the break in protocol, so hopefully there has not been any excessive wear or damage.
Anyone else have this problem or know of someone who has?
