So, my car has been at a stealership for the past 2 days to fix the seat squeaks and the passenger seat airbag light. Well, they basically did nothing to fix the problems! Their response:

"Uh...we hooked up the diagnostic and nothing is wrong with the airbag light. It's normal for the light to come on, but it usually shuts off after a while. If it stays on and doesn't turn off at all, then we have a problem. As far as your seats are concerned, we couldn't duplicate the problem so there's nothing wrong with it."

Was I pissed off at their response. So they think I'm stupid and I'm basically hearing things?!! I've lived with these irritating squeaks and creaks, I finally find the time to take my car and leave it there for 2 days, and you're telling me I'm hearing things?!!

I got the Nissan corporate number and I'll be sure to give them a call. There's definitely something wrong with my seats and I'm not just going to sit here and do nothing about it. They take me for a fool or something. Really, how can you NOT hear the creaking sound when you shift in the seat? Everytime I brake and accelerate, I get this irritating sound that I can't bear for much longer.

Anyone got a permanent fix for their seat problems? If so, what did your dealership do to fix it?

Typical dealership crap.

Did you know they actually have sections in the FSM for finding and rectifying squeeks? Probably flipped through that bad boy and called it a day.

Best of luck to you Eric.

Eric.. I have a squeak as well in my driver seat. In my car (maybe yours is the same?) the squeak is coming from the seatbelt holder above the seat, not the actual seat. Like that little plastic thing that elevates the seatbelt is making the noise, not the actual seat. Maybe that's your problem as well? Everytime I move it creaks I'm gonna have them fix it but not anytime soon.. Anyway good luck

I wish it was only the seatbelt because I'd be able to remedy that myself. Unfortunately, the squeak comes from the actual seat cushion area. It seems to come from the front left-hand side of the driver seat. When I lean foward, get in or out of the car, that stupid squeak appears!

On my next day off, I may just take the whole seat out and find out for myself what's going on down there.

I know how annoying squeaks and similar sounds can get, especially while driving. My old Volvo had so many different sounds, I though I was at the Kennedy Space Center during lift-off. Hope you get this solved asap.

i seem to have the same exact air bag light issue as the rest of you do. And as for the driver's seat, i dotn have any squeaks or creaks, but it does feel loose when coming to a complete stop. And at times when i move around in the car, or gettin in or out, there's like a messed up spring right on the cushion where my back goes, that seems to make a "BOING" sound lol...very irritating.

@ erici feel you man, the stealership does not solve anything for you. I too have got the corporate number, and i have also sent them a letter today. best of luck to you.

So I went to pick up my car after the 2 day sleepover at the STEALERship and suddenly the squeaks and creaks appeared again. I brought the service advisor outside and showed him exactly what I was talking about. He then called the mechanic who came out to reconfirm the odd sounds and now I have to take my car back next week. Only this time, it is documented that they did hear the squeaks and I am getting a loaner, which I rightfully deserve.

This is so frustrating because this was the second time I took it in. Now I have to go back for a third, which really irritates me because I have much better things to do than to take my car in for service! I'll keep you guys posted on the situation. Hopefully they can fix it all next week and I'll be on my merry way.

Definitely find out what they did to resolve. I left a screw or something in my cubby or the glovebox which rattles from one end to the other in corners. Definitely have to get that out before my trip to OH tomorrow. So far, the rest of the car is quiet after 1,500 miles.

So you didn't get a loaner the first time around, but get one for the 2nd repair attempt?

Welcome to the customer service world of the United States. Nobody wants to do anything until you actually shove their nose into the problem. You shouldn't have to prove anything to the customer service department, but things don't always work in our favor. In the end, its just more headaches, problems, and inconveniences for the customer.

Pssshhh...I didn't get a loaner with my first or second trip. But now that it's "documented", I finally get one. Go figure! They could've just asked me the first time to duplicate it, but I guess that was beyond them.

It's car "menehunes", (gremlins for you mainland folks) I tell you. They only mess with you and your car when no one else is around...lol.

Best advise I can give you, try to mentally document WHEN the problem happens. Since this sounds like your 3rd time around, I'd be present when the techs hook up the scanner. And in the case of your squeaking seats, again, be there when they mess around with it, if necessary, do it yourself and "show" them the problem. I know it's a pain in the ***, and it take time out of your schedule, but sometimes you gotta treat techs like idiots and prove to them that there's problems.

Like most of us, dealership techs don't like to do more work than they have to; they'll try to diagnose/fix it, but after 1 or 2 attempts, I bet they'll say f**k it, and conclude that there's no problem and move on to another car that they can get their hours on; they don't get book time for something they couldn't repair.

BTW, what exactly is wrong with the pass airbag light?

Oh Squeaky seat, mine does the same and I know what it is. Your lumbar support.

It is air filled and you can increase pressure with the little handle just left of your hip it seems like a cheesy set up but thats what it is. Remember the Reebok pumps shoe its the same idea except its not your shoe

When you move around in your seat you can hear it deflating slightly and maybe even inflating slightly=== Sqeak psss sqeak pssss try it in a quiet environment.

I wouldnt give my ride up for 2days over it though

Good luck

P.S. you do know that the passenger Airbag is activated by a sensor only when a person or maybe even objects are in the seat. You didnt specify what the problem was just that you were having it fixed or maybe I misread it.

I have power seats and I don't think it has the pump you speak of. Or does it? I'll have to check up on that one, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have that feature.

The passenger seat airbag light lights up on ocassion. It'll stay on for a a couple of minutes or so, then it'll turn off. It's pretty random, but irritating. It even happens when no one is riding on it.

Ooh... here's what u gotta do. first time I brought my car to dealership and asked them to fix the squeaks, they said they couldn't hear it.

however, a few weeks later, my power driver's seat broke (one of the little motors went out), and they had to replace the motor. in order to fix this they needed to take the entire seat out, which supposedly took 2 - 4 hours (I had to get a rental that they didn't tell me of when I made the appt, they tried to charge me, it was so flipping annoying). Anyhow, they fixed the power seat and in doing so seems to have fixed all the squeaks,,, the seat seems much firmer now in some ways.

bottom line I would recommend that they take the entire seat out and then put it back in, w/ everything tightened up.

p.s. - yesterday I heard the motor in my power driver's seat making noises it shouldn't be, I think the motor is about to crap out again.... it better not! :P

Johnny, I had a rattling and buzzing sound coming from my dash. I tightened the dash speakers and it seems to have done the trick. That might be what's wrong with yours.

So many rattles, squeaks, shakes, and noises with the Altima...what's going on with this car? I can't imagine that all of the cars produced would have the same problems.

Good luck with Nissan North AMerica. I have gotten the complete run around with them regarding my car vibrating (rough idle) at stops or red lights. They put another girl on the case and she told me that I have to wait for my original dealership service manager to call me back. Gee, that was over a week ago and now I can't get ahold of the girl that called me.

My car was in 5 TIMES, them telling me the same thing, all codes check out. I am waiting until after Christmas and then I am moving forward with a Lemon Law attorney. Again, I love my car but I just want it fixed.

I hear you man. I plan to lay some rubber lining in the bottoms of the door pockets and the CD holder arm rest. Basically, I have some extra liner after lining all the drawers in the crib. The material is ridged rubber that can be easily cut. So, I'm going to cut some patterns out and lay it down baby. I'm looking for some black lining though. The stuff I have is see through.

I believe that will stop most of the shifting.

Something like this, but it comes in a roll.

plee, how are u going to get a lemon law attorney to make a case about the squeaks. i don't think it will fly, but then again who knows.

IMO the interior is cheap (cheap plastic, cloth, etc).. same thing u will find in civics and corollas. best thing we can do is learn from the mistake of buyin a car w/ so-so interior and going for something better next time (350z.. although that interior supposedly stinks too), or a different make (vw's have sturdy interiors).
