It never occurred to me when I got my ’07 G35X (two days ago) that I would NOT be able to load 9GBs of mp3s onto the HD!?! I must say I was a little shocked…does this make any sense? Not to me.

I don’t own a single CD anymore, CDs are about getting up there with VHS tapes if you ask me. After I came to the realization that I could only play MP3s from a CD I managed to dig out my last 5 CD-Rs and burned them full of mp3s. I figured that this would really be plenty for me anyway and no big deal even though it’s a little disappointing knowing that there is a 10GB HD that is now useless to me (btw 10 GB seems a little small anyway). So, I take my mp3 CDs out and load up the changer, get in the car to see how they work, and they don’t! Now I see that only the in dash CD player will play mp3 CDs! This is very discouraging and frustrating to me. Now the HD AND CD changer is useless to me.

Am I missing something here? Is it possible to get my mp3s onto the HD? The CD changer wont play mp3s? If I burned my music to CDs in .wav as music CDs would the system THEN save them to the HD or can it also tell that they are not store bought music CDs and STILL not save them to the HD?

Any advice is appreciated!

I've got an 80GB Zune but that hardly addresses my issue with the setup in this car. I don't think that it is reasonable to get a premium package with navi that has a 10GB hard drive, an in dash Cd player and a 6 disk changer and then not use ANY of it and instead have to hookup an ipod and fumble around with that to listen to music.

Just wondering if anyone else has figured out how to get MP3s onto this setup?

Actually the iPod is really the way to go with the stock setup. With it you have full navigation of menus, etc. unlike what you have with the hard drive (which by the way is actually larger then 10 GB, just you can't use the rest for music). To me the really question is the logic behind crippling so much of the menus for the hard drive while leaving so much functionality of the iPod interface available. If we are speaking about safety I find it far more unsafe trying to get around a crippled menu structure then if it was not so crippled and maybe more logically laid out. If the iPod menu structure is safe to use, then copy it for the most part for the hard drive interface. Being the same or very close to it would make it more familiar and thus safer to use.

Yeap Ipod is the way to go. I only have the little ipod nano but you can get the 120gb ipod used for 60-70 bux and you have more than enough space. I usually listen sattelite but the nano is there in case. I only have 2 or 3 cds in the dash(no navi). Rest is empty. Don't even listen them.

I agree, you shouldnt have to go the iPod rout after getting all those extras. I have an older G35, but a friend of mine, with a newer G35, mentioned the stereo ripping his CDs to the hard drive. I think they do have to be regular cds though, not mp3 disks.

Seems like they really missed the beat in the tech department with that stereo.
