So its time i trade in my 4 door to a new mid size truck...tacoma? not really. I really liked the style and looks of the Frontier and i was in luck. I found an 01 Desert Runner very well priced with 70k miles. So here we go.

I took it out for a test drive with out really knowing what to expect. It was 5-speed so i figured that with a v6 should be fun. WOW, THIS TRUCK IS A JOKE. I can't believe how horrible this truck felt. Not saying all frontiers of this year and model are the exact same as this, but OMG. This truck is so slow, power...lol wut power.

I was so excited to test drive this truck as it would have been my first truck. What a disappointment this truck is. Had to rant cuz i was looking forward to owning two white nissans, but NO, the frontier had to be a joke of a truck. bye.

Nice thread.

You want power, get a 2005+ model. Most HP in its class.

That 2001 is no powerhouse, but if you want an engine that will run well for 300k miles, you should reconsider.

Trucks aren't made to drift.

My Frontier is slow, but I promise you I could drive all the way over your 240 with it in 4wd with the lockers engaged :D

who said I was trying to drift? I have my track car for that. This truck just made me feel like ****. Its like being a die hard Oak Raider fan and having them let you down every season cuz they suck. Kinda like that, I almost feel let down by Nissan. I'm sure the older hard bodies had more pep than this thing. But i have thought about the longevity the truck could produce, but its still not worth it.

lol, you could never catch me. lol, if you did run me over, I'd get my bronco and do the same to you. haha.

I didn't mean to start up a pissing match tho. Sorry to all Frontier owners. You have your truck for your reasons. Talk to you guys never on this forum.

Supercharged Frontiers are better. Though, still a bit weak. Try a new Frontier out or a Titan. Those will really change your point of view quickly.

New frontiers are a blast to drive. I was surprised how quick it was.

old frontiers - nice but underpowered unless you get teh s/c. (used to have an 01 , not an s/c though)

new frontiers - hella power. and also very nice.i've seen times as low as 14.7 in the 1/4 for a stock 6spd ext. cab.

Yep, I have an '06 Nismo Frontier with a six speed, its WAAAYY faster than my cousin's s/c XTerra! I imagine its embarassing for him. I can chirp the tires pretty well going into third.

You folks are comparing apples and oranges.

The 3.3 was never built to be a speedy engine. It was built for longevity and endurance. Which I can honestly say to this day makes me wonder why Nissan and Eaton ever bothered making a blower for the 3.3 in the first place. 40 extra ponies and 40 pounds more torque? And you need to run premium fuel? --WTF--

The 3.5 in the Pathfinder was a far more powerful engine and it's not even SC'd with 240 HP and 270 FT/Pounds ( best guess on torque ).

The 4.0 Liter took everything Nissan learned from the 3.0, 3.3 and 3.5 and their V8 platforms and churned out a nasty beast of a V6 engine.

Still my 2000 Xterra with it's 3.3 does shudder a bit when we drive by a newer model X or Frontier.... Jelousy is a b**ch.

Yeah, the new frontier can tow up to 5500 pounds, I think. I've towed cars, jet skis and pulled others from being stuck with no problem

Heh... if you think that truck was bad you really need to drive an early Toyota truck with the 22RE. I'm pretty sure a moped could pass that thing. :rotf

I've test driven the new Frontier and those VQ40's are definitely awesome. That's the one you need to get for sure.

Talking longevity -mtcookson- the 22R series was a turtle, but i had a 1980 that was kept in the extended family for over 600k . My 95 Hardbody did make it look like a moped, and my '07 Frontier makes it seem (or at least as I can remember) that you might be better off walking.

Hahaha I have a 1994 Toyota Pickup and found this thread doing a search for frontiers.

Yeah she can't get out of her own way but she always starts and is ok.

I would like to move up to a larger truck though.

Can anyone figure why the Nismo edition only comes automatic?

If you purchase a base model could you just purchase the bilsteins that are on the Nismo?

I'm sure if you bugged them they'd let you buy just the bilsteins and other nismo tidbits.

i don't know about the bilsteins (b/c i would like them on my SE also)

but you CAN get a nismo KC 6spd 4x4 (don't know about 4x2). they had one at the dealer where i bought my truck, actually, it was the truck i was going in to buy, but they had already sold it. and they gave me a good deal on the auto vs. going somewhere else for a 6spd.

I can't see this being a problem once you find out the part number from Bilstein direct.

Yeah I have two little ones and would like to move into a CrewCab when the time comes. Right now my little pickup works fine and I am just saving some loot on the side for the rainy day when it just falls apart.

Then I will move to the CC Frontier.

I was looking at the Tacoma CC but they only offer the longbed in automatic.

At least I can get a SE and put the options I like afterwards.
