I had that problem a few years ago. I didn't know it until someone took a pic of my car on the expressway. I figured it out. This was what happened in MY case. The convertible top comes with these plastic strips factory bonded to the underside of the top. Think of it like industrial zip-lock. These plastic strips attach zip-lock style to the metal supports that make up the frame of the top mechanism. What happened was one of the plastic strips can came unbonded from the top. It happened when the previous owner got the back window replaced. The top is actually not really designed to be removed after is had been installed. The top needs to be removed to replace the back window, so the stress from trying to un-zip-lock it ruins the bond. It can't be fixed. I needed a new top. I bought an Electron top (I swear by it). Tightening the fabric from the front wouldn't have solved my problem.
