After driving the Vert I picked up today, I came to realize that my verts suspension is way to soft and sluggish. I want to do what is needed to bring it back to the way it was intended to be. I am thinking of doing coil overs, but I DO NOT want to lower it, the places I go a lot of times just won't allow it. I am looking for suggestions as to a good quality replacement coil over that is not race inspired or anything like that, just a stock height quality unit. Maybe for what I am looking for just replacing with Nissan OEM????

Also, while I am doing this, is there bushings I should replace? They don't look bad to me, but on a 15 year old car, I am thinking they are wore out also? Any other suggestions as to how to get my ride quality back so far as the feel. Again, I stress, I am not looking for any drifting/racing type stuff.

D2 coilovers are more stiff, and with the bushings replace it if you want. If your not doing anything then i woudnt bother.

Bill,

If you don't want to lower the car, and you probably are not looking for a bone jarring ride, I'd recommend a set of KYB AGX shocks with a new set of OEM springs. AGX are the only adjustable shocks that I'm aware of. They have like 8 firmness settings. They are really nice!

It just seems silly to me to spend all the cash on coilovers if you aren't going to drop it to the ground and drive it hard.

Thats kind of the answer I was looking for. So I should just go with OEM springs and shocks.

Agreed completely.

Don't waste the money on coilovers if you do not need the benefits of them. Would even think that just some newer used stuff might work (people swapping out the cars that have less than 100k miles on them.

OEM would work for you probably. The KYB AGX would be a good choice if you wanted to adjust the ride softness/firmness. KYB GR-2 is a good OEM type shock as well.

For bushings, probably the tension rod bushings are worn and possibly the tie rod ends.

OK, now we are getting somewhere. I don't see need to be able to adjsut, so the GR-2 sounds like what I want.

I think you'd be impressed with the AGX because of it's adjustability. You can really swing it from being soft like a stock suspension to being somewhat firm.. not like coils, but plenty firm. I've had two sets of AGX's in the past including a set on my 'vert right now. They are really nice.

On the other hand, they are like 2x as expensive as the GR-2's. Either way, you'll be happy with a new set of shocks, and your checking account will appreciate only spending $200-$400 total vs. $800 to $1000+.

You're smart to think about the bushings. Most people forget all about that, and they make a huge impact on the tightness of the car. I'd start with the TC rods and bushings first. I'd also look at the rear subframe bushings. Would be a good idea as Biggie said to check the tie rod ends as well.

Don't go with D2s. They blow out and leak fast. Dexter's Enduratechs are nice.

AGX + 1" drop springs would be ideal. If you're going to spend good money on suspension, you might as well drop it just a hair. Stock ride height sucks.

I've been running KYB AGX with H&R springs for a while, and they work great. Of course, the H&R's drop the front about 2" and the back about 3". So OEM springs would probably work great for your application.

After looking at the red vert (the one that rides so much nicer) I see that it has all new looking struts, but OEM springs. I am thinking maybe just go with the struts and see if that gets me what I want. Also, the struts on the red one are blue, I am thinking probably Monroes???

For the money, which would you guys go with?http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...&rd=1

Also, is there a better place to buy struts then ebay?

OEM springs plus KYB GR-2s (15% stiffer than new OEM struts). No need to drop the extra money on AGXs if you're using OEM springs and do not want a stiff ride.

Another alternative would be Koni inserts in the stock strut housings, but they are expensive and kind of a PITA to build.

Check anything rubber attached to the suspension and replace it if worn. Also get Nismo TC rod bushings pressed in - they are firmer than stock, but still flexible enough for old farts.
