this is branching off from another thread:

i also had this problem last summer.

are you guys running rich? does your idle seem rough like you're ka is cammed? has your acceleration suffered?

i had all of those problems - not all the time and not always at the same time.

first thing i did was install a new fuel filter. that didn't solve the problem, so i bought a set of used injectors from an altima (? i don't recall) and swapped them in. it didn't help either. so i got a fuel rail with injectors from another ka from a friend and swapped that over and it solved all my problems. so i think it was the fuel rail... maybe the fpr... i don't remember whether or not i checked the fpr or not; but the car ran and started perfect after that.

I had the rough idle problem initially, and I also failed emissions. No acceleration problems at all.

My rear bumper seems like it's running rich (it accumulates black crud over time), but two of my spark plugs were saying lean. HOWEVER, the previous owner had recently put on aftermarket ignition components, so that probably threw things way off.

I now have a new factory ignition system from the rotor to the plugs and new Z32 fuel filter and I pass emissions. The car actually ran and idled well for the month after I did the ignition, but now it's idling rough again and is getting difficult to start. I need to step on the gas to get it going, which freaks me out, because I hate it when I flood a car and get stranded.

I have 150k miles, so I'm sure the fuel system is weak throughout.

Here's what I'm going to do, in order, until it's fixed:

-Replace battery (it's old)-Pull plug wires one by one to see if I can figure out if an injector isn't working; replace faulty injector(s)-Install Walbro fuel pump (am going to do this regardless for a future swap)-Switch out fuel rail-Switch out FPR-Get a VQ35DE swap

Will keep you posted.

Havent even tried the remote starter lately...I always figured it had problems because it was pretty damn cold out. Next time I see my mechanic Ill ask him to check the fuel rail out

(grrr stupid firefox went berserk, my apostrophe key now does a Ctrl+F )

I was having similar problems with mine, which is what prompted the Walbro fuel pump switch out. It was then that I discovered the rust in the tank. After cleaning the tank a number of times and replacing about 4 fuel filters the problem cleared up, although I did notice some black soot on back bumper. The hard start condition only happened 2 times before I pulled the original fuel pump. Autozone also sells the larger fuel pump sock for about $12.00 and it comes with a lifetime warranty (have already used it twice as well). I did the fuel pump switch as well as Z32 filter knowing the SR is going in. I hope yours is a bit easier than mine... cleaning the tank was not fun. Did you check the fuel pump sock? That made a huge difference when I swapped it out. I can tell when it starts getting clogged as the fuel pump gets a bit noisy (can actually hear it when at idle). Hope you find it.
