I think I asked this some time ago, but I can't find the thread. I don't think my seat belts are working properly. Is this an issue with these cars? I buckle up, and no matter if I am sitting still, cournering, or on the brakes, the seat belt does not lock up. I can pull it away from my body at will, as far as I want. Does not seem like it would be of ANY value in a crash situation????

What can you guys tell me?

I think thats the way they were made in the 90's. No one really cared about seatbelts being locked in a crash situation. They just cared about weather they were going to survive if they put a seatbelt on it.

The other option is someone fiddled with the seat belt and modded it in some way. BUt mine does not lock up either so I think that its just the way they came.

Hopefully, I am of some help to you.

I just got back from talking to my service tech at dealership. He explained that the locking pin for the seat belts locks in with 1 G of inertia, inertia to the car, not quick inertia to the belt. So, unless you go out and SLAM YOUR brakes on, you will not lock up your belts.

i wrecked my first vert and the seatbelts work wonderfully.

every car i've rode in acts the same way as far as seatbelts, in other words every car's seatbelts and loose so you can move until something like inertia moves the locking mechanism. perhaps your other car's seatbelts weren't working correctly?

Yup, same here, got the cracked ribs and sternum to prove it That's weird though, on every other car I've been in the seatbelts lock when you pull them fast.

Exactly!! Thats why I thought something was wrong with them, and went and talked to the tech about them.

You can get the vert ones to lock w/ a quick pull, but you have to do it right (they don't seem to be as sensitive as others).

However, easy way is to do a quick stop (say, from like 80->40, I was able to get them to lock up going much slower, too). They'll lock up. I don't think you need a whole 1G of inertia, at least mine doesn't seem to.

Vert belts do not lock up when you pull them fast because, technically, they are supposed to stay buckled at all times.

I don't care if they don't lock up by pulling on them, just so long as they are not defective as I thought they were! All is good now, in fact, it is nicer that they don't lock up by pulling on them fast!
