Hello to all, I am new to this forum and I am really excited to have found this place. Well here is my question I have a 93Vert and just recently one day out of the blue the top would go down very slowly and does not go up all the way, I do hear the motor running but it makes a sound like it's not engaging? it only goes up so far and stops. Any ideas wht this might be?I read on some other topics that there is a manual override for this? The Top is quite heavy. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks from Dallas,Tx

Fel1.

Welcome to NICO!

Make sure you get your info into the convertible registry. See the sticky at the top of the forum.

As for the top... I'm not sure, but you might want to make sure you have enough hydrolic fluid in the compressor. Another thing to check is the mechanical arms of the top itself... make sure you don't have any joints that are damaged.

Anyone else have some ideas...???

the little cover pulls right off...it's velco'ed on...you should be able to pull it off with no problems. Than you can see the fluid level.

First I want to thank everyone who responded, this is what I found..The oil for the pump in the vert (For the TOP) is ok maybe is half full, what I did notice after a small inspection is that the TOP seems to have somthing that looks like a Strut??On both sides? The right side seems to be broken? The reason I say that is, the left side (driver side) seems to be attached to a bolt, could this be keeping my top from working? And if so, is this hard to fix (Expensive?) Once again I appreciate all responses, Also regarding the headlamp, I did the manual thing and got it down, when I press the button for it to go up it does, however it still will not come down what could it be?Thanks to all.

the headlight motors have all sorts of problems. sometimes is as simple as a ground but sometimes it necessitaties the replacement of the switch or other components. fortunately they are cheap enough that if you find someone who put on a silvia front end you should be able to get their old lights cheap.. I sold mine for $30/side with motors, bulbs, and covers...

anyway about your top yes if one of your "strut looking things" (you mean the hydraulic cylinders?) is not attached on either end then it may not work. flip the lever on top of your vert pump and raise the top manually, you should be able to watch the rods on those stroke out as it goes up... if its just lose on one end then you'll have to fix it. it shouldn't be expensive but its a hard area to get to so it may be difficult. could be as simple as the bolt backing out, but if the bolt broke and you have to get the hole drilled/tapped that could be real hard to get to.

Thanks for the info, this site is great, I'll check out the "Hydraulic cylinder" LOL , and hopefully it's not too bad, Summer is just around the corner, and really want to get my baby, back in shape. Doing some suspension work as well no mods, just replacing stuff trying to keep it all stock as much as possible. Once again thanks for all the help!!

Hey top_secret.... next time you make a trip to the boneyard... see if you can get me the little cover for the "dome" light for the 'vert.

Also... if you do go... try to write down the vin numbers for the 'verts in the yard... we can add them to the list as "junk" or salvage or something like that.

**** you can add my VIN to that list since thats where I got mine from.

anyway I already have one of those little covers I took for a spare, I'll see if the others have one.

i didn't mean to imply that yours is junk... Just that the ones in the salvage yard should be seperated... as the registry is meant to collect the cars still in operation.

But, for the sake of VIN analysis and capturing data... it would be nice to have the info from the junkyard ones.

Plus, if some wonderful, caring 240sx enthusiest were ever to exhume a 'vert from a boneyard... we could easily change the "status" of the vehicle on the registry.

well one of them is at the yard, but its sitting in their front lot and whiel I have got some parts off it already the owner said he is willing to sell it whole since he hasn't yet sent the title in to the state and it still runs and drives. So I dunno what column that would fit under.
