I should probably do a search to see if this has been covered, but for those of you who ever plan on replacing your wiper blades, here is some info I found the hard way.

The wiper catalogs distributed by Bosch, Anco, and others, used for customer info in most auto parts stores incorrectly specify a 16" and a 22" blade for the Versa windshield. These measurements are incorrect, and will cause problems for anyone who installs these blades; Nissan specifies a 14" for the passengers' side, and a 26" for the drivers' side. These sizes seem to be difficult to find, as apparently Bosch does not made a 14" blade, and apparently Rain-X doesn't either. Wal-Mart does not carry a 14" blade from any manufacturer, last I checked.

I plan on buying my blades from the dealer until the better-quality manufacturers start selling the right blades.

The catalogs are good. It's Nissan fault, they use a uncommon size of wiper's. Smallest available from manufacturer's is 16 inch and 26 is uncommon, maybe on newer minivans...

The catalogs improperly list the size of the blades. How is that Nissan's fault? Granted, Nissan should have stuck with a more common wiper blade size combination, it's still not their fault if the blade manufacturers list the wrong blade sizes.

Maybe they list 16" and 22" because it's the only ( standard size combo ) that works.

I got my winter blades at Advanced Auto Parts. Their electronic catalog had the right numbers.

It's disgustingly cheaper just to buy the inserts... It's almost $7 per wiper.

16" and 22" does not work. The 16" hangs over the windshield.

I'm not Kimber(Kenobi) but I can answer that one;

An insert (also known as an "element") is the rubber part of the blade. Some people find it more cost effective to re-use the metal frame, and just replace the rubber wiper element. Some parts stores still carry replacement elements. Not all blades can be "rebuilt," some are designed to prevent you from doing this. Winter blades are a good example of 100% disposable blades.

to augment... Nissan sells just the insert. They were on backorder when I needed one (but my blade was damaged, so I needed to replace the whole thing anyway).

The "oily kind of crap" is likely just your dirty windshield. Clean the windshield and the inserts and see if it still smears.

Clean the wiper insert as well. Whatever was on the windshield is now on the insert.

Not to be rude, but Andrews already mentioned that.

I was a little blurry-eyed at 5 am myself. Sorry if I came across as a jerk.
