My only driving experience with the Fit was not in the US market. The Fit in Brazil (at least the one that my student drove) was FULLY loaded. Leather seats, high end audio system, dual climate control... Basically everything except for navigation. When I came back to the US I was very disappointed when sat in a Fit at the dealership.

We bought a Versa three days ago... SL HB w/Sport Package, Convenience Package, and CVT. Very pleased with the purchase, and are stunned by how quiet it is, how much rear seat room there is and how nice the ride is. Feels like a much larger car. It is way more refined than our '01 Sentra SE (a great car), and the interior finish and materials are FAR superior. Listed at $17,990, dealer discount tagged at $16,598 (including $750 rebate), our price with Nissan VPP C program $16,335.

We also test-drove the Fit Sport w/auto... much smaller, especially in width, much noisier inside, firmer ride, the back seat options were very well done, engine much louder than Versa but made typically nice Honda hi-rev sounds, very lightweight, and sounded like it, paddle shifter kinda cool, dealer wanted list or slightly over $16,700 MSRP to buy.

The noise wouldn't have bothered me three decades ago but it sure makes a difference today. Putting a good sound system into a noisy cabin doesn't make much sense. Not that I haven't done it (76 VW Sirocco). The Fit is targeted to a younger clientele. I can see why it's got a following.

i was the owner of an '07 fit for 20,000 miles, about 9 months (i'm a traveler). i think the versa and fit both have their ups and downs. i'm still in favor of the fit over the versa. the things i don't miss about the fit is it's lag in long trips, and also it's struggle up hills. the fit is a city designed car in my eyes, and the versa is more geared to the highway. i'm a highway guy, so i'm better off in the versa, but i'm just so bored in the versa, it's not as fun to drive.

Don't know about the backseat, may be true, but if you really think "Honda sucks" then you're a little off base. I love our Versa (and Nissan/Infiniti) but they don't have the track record of Honda or Toyota, like it or not. I find it really humorous that there's so much hate of the Fit around here. It's just a different car, folks, get over it. We picked the Versa for various reasons, just like Fit owners had their own.

actually, the seats are built very sturdy. they are definitely not made out of cardboard. the big seller on the fit is how the seats fold down flat, it came in handy at times, especially when i was hauling my hockey eguipment around. and you could do "tall mode" with the back seats folding up, which came in very very handy. anyways, as i said, the fit is a very superior car, i chose the fit because of the honda tag on it, and it's reputation with the vtec engine. it was a very reliable car, and always got the job done. it was fun to mod out too, my 60mm skunk2 exhaust sounded great with the intake, and i always had something fun planned out as far as a mod or customization went.

Lol sorry my friend but the sales person u had was clearly from nissan and he wanted his money trust me i was a sales person too and yes i do admit i would "fib" a little to get a sale but in the end its the buyers responisblity to do their homework and look at every option. Hell i even took a customer on a test drive stoped by home depot and bought him a 2x4 to see if it would fit and how it would react in the car!

Yes i must agree that the versa was nice on the highway plus the added power screms long trips. Like i said before in my last post the fit was just a better well round car over all. Not hating on the versa or its nissan tag in fact nissan has a lot of my favorite sports cars. But the fact of the matter is, in the market both our cars are in, the fit made more sence on paper and from the over-all driving experince. To each their own but i do enjoy a good debate over cars in general. Everything has there ups and downs like it has been stated before it just all depends on what u need and what makes sence.

P.S. - Found a versa today semi-modded in a windy back road heading to my buddies party and although he started catching up in the only long stright. Although as soon as that next corner came up he was never to been seen agian.

For the benefit of the newer owners here...

Don't play the Nissan vs Honda game. Don't try to convince someone that one is "very superior" to another, it's never going to work. For every fanatic Honda owner, there is an equally fanatic Nissan owner. Bad-mouthing each others' cars is just going to piss off a bunch of people.

Well stated...I've owned a Honda Pilot since 2004 and just bought a 2008 Versa SL. I too looked at the Fit, and I think what made me buy the Versa was better rear side crash ratings over the Fit (I have an 8 month old baby), and the fact that Nissan isn't as highly lauded by Consumer Reports as the Hondas, so I was able to get more features and was able to get the dealer to actually 'deal'. I would guess that the quality difference between the Japanese brands is very small, and easier to see when you're polling a million owners of each like CR does. 99% of normal owners will never see a significant problem with their imports in a normal lifespan with reasonable maintenance. My first new auto was a 1985 Nissan 200SX and I have bought imported (Nissan, VW, Audi, Honda) ever since.

There's no lack of love for the Versa around here, I mean, that's why we're here, right? All I'm saying (and others have reinforced) it's that it's more than a little sophomoric to sit here and dump on another "competing" car that has its own set of pros and cons just like any other car. The Versa isn't perfect, but I chose it over other cars in its class (and beyond) for a set of reasons unique to my and (more importantly) my wife's needs and wants in getting a new vehicle.
