How bad is the trade-in value for the Versa? I have a near mint 2007 with ~25k miles.

It's still under warranty so that will help but you didn't say what type (S or SL) and what other options came with your Versa.

I'm guessing the dealer will give you $9000-$10,000 for an SL, less for an S.

Remember, this is trade in value so you'll get a few thousand less than if you sold it yourself.

What are you planning on doing? You don't like the Versa anymore? Have something better in mind to purchase?

It is a S 6MT, new wheels & tires. I think I can get a pro-rated refund on the 100k extended warranty. Ford did it when I traded for the Xterra.

I still like the Versa, but it all depends if I get a promotion and the ~$1k/month raise in the next few months. I'm thinking a 350Z Nismo. I don't have room for three cars & the Xterra is not going.

You would do a lot better to sell it instead of trading in. Is the extended warranty transferable? If so then that would be another plus for your sale.

Edmunds lists a trade in value of around $9500 and a private sale price of $10,300 and a dealer retail of close to $11K.

The demand for these cars are increasing along with the gas prices, so I am sure that you should not have much trouble selling your Versa.

Six speed manual S. I'll be surprised if he offers you more than $8000.

I have access to Manheim dealer car auctions and don't let yourself to be ripped off by using the book value for this car.... the book value like kbb.com, edmunds.com and nadaguides.com didn't catch up to the real market yet, smalls cars like Civic, Versa, Fit, Corolla, Yaris etc are sky rocketing in value and are selling for over book value. I was at a couple auctions last week and 07 Versas with like 5k-25k miles were auctioning off anywhere from $11,500 to $12,000 which means they'll be on the lots for sale at around $14,000. At auctions you can pretty much consider paying a ball park figure of trade-in value which is listed as $10,000 for Versa but they are selling for about $2000 over that (add about 500-750$ for the SL model).

If you think of trading this car in and getting book value, the dealers are bending you over really bad at this point and time because you can't find a Versa for $10,000 ANYWHERE, dealers are paying about 12k for them at auctions like I said.

If you're trying to sell, do it privatley because a Versa with like 20k on it will get $12,000 privatley easily.... I dont know when this small car craze is gonna slow down but now these Versas are considered an in demand car.

You're making me sorry I only bought one.

Private party will net you more money, but it also might take longer to a) find a buyer and b)for that buyer to get financing (who has $12k laying around?) . Balance your needs with your wants and you'll be a happy camper.

Seriously re-consider selling your car though. While a Nismo 350z would be a blast to drive, it takes premium gas and gets at about 10mpg less than your Versa. I was in a similar position with a fat raise on the horizon and when the $ came in was floored by how little it moved my take-home amount.

My $0.02: wait until your first or second paycheck after the raise before doing something drastic.

Thats a good point, when selling privatley it takes longer to find a buyer... little more hassel, possiblity of scammers. Plus, for a trade-in don't forget that you deduct whatever $ you got for your trade in taxes from the new cars.... IE you buying a 350Z for $30k, you get $10k for your Versa trade-in, you now only have to pay taxes on $20k.

But as I said before, accepting 10k for your Versa in trade-in at this point and time is letting the dealer ride you out for all you got...

A little worldly advice. Keep the car, open a College 529 savings accounts for any kids you may have with the differential in payments you would incur. Do that for 17 years and you can retire early. Trust me, it goes fast and you are best served by driving it for 200 k miles! The decisions you make today to spend more money impact you later in life.

Expect to be offered low trade-in value from a dealer, initially. You can easily get private party value out of them if they really want it. Play the auction off of them, too....they can pay the same price at an auction, or have this one right now.

You can set up a 529 saving plan for yourself, depending on what your state has decided on how it's to be managed.

I think I am going to wait for the 09 350Z. It should drop in price come the 10 370Z.

I was at the Nissan dealership looking at new Altimas. My car is a 2007 S model automatic hatchback with 22000 miles and is near mint. They offered $9200 trade in value for it. Needless to say I owed a tad bit more that it was worth so once you added what I owed plus the amount of the new Altima my payments were getting out of my price range. Oh well. Atleast I still have my mint Versa.

Today was the end of my Versa. I got $10,800 (what I still owed... I bargained a bit to get this much out of it, original offer was $10k) for an '07 SL 6MT hatch with ABS and 30,000 miles.
