Almost anything that you can put in the doors will sound better than stock. I would say it's definatley worth it. I am currently running 2 ways in the rear, 2 way seperates in the front and a 10" sub.

Just know that most aftermarket speakers are going to be very bright compared to the OEM ones, especially since you don't have the SL with stock tweeters, so there may be less than bass than you'd expect.

One thing you have to know is that your factory HU is probably pushing out maybe 10-12 watts per channel if you're lucky. Just upgrading your deck to an aftermarket will bring that number up, not by much, but it will put out more power than your factory deck.

You also chose a good speaker to run without an amplifier because the newer REF series Infiniti's are 2 ohm. Most factory speakers (not the Altima) will run 4 ohm speakers so just changing them out will be a big upgrade in itself.

So I say go ahead and do it. It'll sound much, much better than your stock sound system.

The stock HU on the S is rated at 120 watts - thus peak wattage per channel (4) would be 30 watts, not 10-12. Just FYI.

i believe hes taking about RMS wattage... the alpine is giving 18... therefore a better sound, cause it can do 50 watts per channel peak...

btw... installing my second pair of speakers now... cant wait to hear the difference

Come on now, realistically your factory stereo IS NOT putting out 120 watts, I'll tell you that much. Noticed how I said, "your factory HU is probably pushing out maybe 10-12 watts per channel if you're lucky." I didn't say PEAK, I said pushing out, meaning RMS rating.

The 30 watts per channel rating is PEAK power, which you'll never see or hear. The RMS rating will usually fall about 1/3 to 1/2 the rating of the peak power. Usually it'll lean more toward the 1/3 output. Your Versa is pushing out about 10-12 watts per channel at most.

I'm sure xtwoonamatchx can vouche for me since he installed his new HU. Even running the factory speakers and upgrading only the HU you will see a HUGE imporvement in sound quality and output. Thus, proving that the factory HU is probably pushing out around 10 watts per channel vs the Alpine's 18 watts per channel.

One thing you have to realize is that all manufacturers list peak numbers. I guess it's like HP ratings by car manufacturers. Your car may have 300HP, but stick it on a dyno and you'll quickly find out that you don't get 300HP to the wheels. All the numbers are rated at the crank. Kind of sort of false advertizing, but not quite.

oh yeah.... as soon as i turned it on with the stock speakers it sounded sooo much better, but at the same time, distorted a ton too....

i got infinity 6022i 2 ways all around... and i must say, sounds AWESOME

here are pics of the HU... i had to drill a hole in the bracket for my ipod, and not thinking i put the bracket face down on the ground so i scratched up the bracket.... THANK GOD i didnt keep the headunit in there while i did =p

this pic shows the quality of the screen, with the flash on, you can still clearly read it, not to mention, gotta rep the Dr. Pepper air freshener =]      unfortunately, the camera doesnt pic up the HVAC and gauge lights, because the blue really breaks up the orange nicely, and it isnt overwhelming, especially with the blue cathodes... whatcha think?

Looks good! Is that a Metra kit you used?

And the factory speakers sounded distorted when turned up because they couldn't handle the whopping 18 watts coming from the Alpine I also have the 6022i in my car and they sound great.

nah... its the schosh or however the hell you spell it... yeah they sound really nice, except i gotta check the front passenger one cause it seems kinda rattle-y maybe cause of the wires? how did you do yours?....

i crimped on wire on the end of the car's speaker wires, and crimped on quick-connect things to those, put those UNDER the plastic bracket and mounted the plastic bracket... then just put in the speakers.... i was kinda lost a bit, and didnt think i needed the metal ring? i may be wrong, but they soudn AWESOME, crisp highs, DECENT lows, could use a little more UMPH!, but yeah... i know WHY the factory ones distorted, but they distorted a lot more, and started at a higher volume, which i was fine with, till i experienced my infinities =]

Scoche

Well, I have an Altima so mine is different than yours. I had to remove my factory 6.5" which are actually mounted in it's own bracket which is much larger. My car was about 2 weeks old when I decided to tear it apart so it was sort of painful to drill new holes into my doors, but I did it. I soldered my wires, like I do with all my installs just for security and peace of mind. I also lined my new speakers with dynamat to reduce rattling, which it did well. You should give dampening a try; Dynamat and Accumat are the better known brands.

If you want better mid bass and overall better SQ, pick up some dynamat and do your doors. I did all 4 doors, and saw a good reduction in road noise, and a overall pleasant gain is SQ with no other changes.

4Channel amp along with some dynamat or any type of sound deadner will give you a good amount of midbass without adding a sub.

Today I actually did a system in my Moms PT Cruiser. Did Alpine Type R 6.5 Components in the front, Type R 5x7s in the rear, 4 channel amp, and about 10sqft of Fatmat per front door. And she has more than enough bass for her needs. Sounds great.

yeah its bearable, im just tryin to NOT take my doors apart any more, for the time being, because my dumb self... i could NOT manage to take off the little silver rings by the handles without breaking off a clip... and on my rear driver door... i BROKE BOTH!!! but yeah, im not a fan of alpine SPEAKERS... i compared them to the infinitys (at bestbuy) and the alpines seemed to be more deeper while the infinitys were REALLY clear, i bought the infinitys because i MAY add a sub down the road, but for now its awesome, the highs are PERFECT... the snare drum kinda makes me blink a little.. like im actually playing a snare (i used to play drums)

but its all up to personal preference... i would like to do sound dampening, but i have no more money, although i wound up getting...

Alpine CDA-9886........ $299.992 Sets 6022i's............ $99.99 ea set

so 500 bucks worth of stuff for like $360

bought the headunit off crutchfield so it came with the mounting bracket, wiring harness and antenna adapter for free... and infinities come with a 6.5" to 6.75" adapter for free.... and i got those at bestbuy with $140 in gift cards! =]

so... i bought myself a nice xmas present =]

Word of advise, Dont buy anything from Best Buy. Im a AutoTech installer for Best Buy. Go to Woofersetc.com or Onlinecarstereo.com

I only buy stuff from them since I get it 5% above cost. So unless you got a buddy that works there, go somewhere else and save 50% off.

For what it's worth, I did say 'peak' in my post, and I'm fully aware of the difference between peak wattage and RMS wattage. I'm also aware of the advantages of aftermarket stereos. Also, I've got the 180 watt (peak, total) upgraded factory stereo optional on the SL. I'm not sure how it breaks down power delivery to the a-pillar tweeters or factory subwoofer, however.

Believe it or not, I knew that. But thanks for assuming otherwise. If my G was getting all 145hp to the road, maybe it wouldn't be such a slug. I'm probably lucky if the auto transmission gets around 115hp to the road.
