Hey guys,This is my first time posting on here mainly because my wife drives the Versa, and i thought I would share some interesting info that may or may not have already been discussed. I was recently installed a xm radio into my wifes Versa which involved me diconecting the factory radio while I was running wires and splicing into the antenna harness so that I could directly attach to the antenna and have a pure signal from the FM transmiter. The first interesting thing I ran into was that the radio is dependant on the antenna for power. I found out that if you splice into the antenna you must make sure to reconnect the braided wire that surrounds the rubber insolation that surrounds the signal wire. I originally believed that this braided wire was mainly for static/noise prevention because it did not seem to be powered in any way. But it turns out that that if both the braided wire and signal wire are not connected correctly you get no power.

Now the more interesting part of this story, after installing this her airbag light in the gauge cluster began continuosly flashing. So I went to nissan to setup a appointment to get it checked out. After explaining the problem to the service guy he asked me if i had done any radio work and if i had disconneted the battery to do it, which of course I hadnt. Well it turns out that when you unplugg the stereos headunit that the airbags apparently through off codes saying there are issues with the passenger airbag. And even better my dealership wanted a $100 dollars to check and clear the the codes, which I wasnt going to pay.

So I pulled out my handy dandy service manual for my sentra spec-v figuring that nissan would probably not have changed the manual resets for the ecu. And walla I cleared the error codes my self. Heres the fix.

1. Turn ignition switch to on.2. After AIRBAG warning lamp lights for 7 seconds, turn ignition switch "OFF" within 1 second.3. Wait more than 3 seconds.4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 three times5. Turn ignition switch on

Here's a link to this fix as well as other fixesEdit: Linking to non-NICO forums is not allowed.

Unplugging the HU didn't cause that. Unplugging the indicator light on the dash piece would.

I had removed my HU to check out the wiring harness & did not have the symptoms you described. I did leave the dash piece hanging by the wire though.

Your dealer is also a d!ck for wanting $100 to reset the system. Pep-boys would do it for free.

Thanks for the manual code. I had heard the same for other Nissans. It should be added to a FAQ.

Well at least unplugging the indicator makes sense.

The $100 was to run a system check to verify that the disconnection was the problem and not something else. Pepboys would just be clearing the codes.

What the hell is the deal with not being able to link to other forums I'm trying to give a useful piece of info that could help other nissan owners?
