My wife and I are looking at buying a new vehicle and we are seriously considering a Versa. However I have read a ton of user opinions and some say they get great gas mileage (35 mpg) and some others say lower 20s and even a couple in the teens. Can I get some honest information from you guys on what of gas mileage you get from your Versas? If it makes any difference we are looking at a used (20k miles) Versa SL or we may possibly look at buying a new model. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,Rusty

Hi Rusty,

I have a 2008 Versa SL hatchback with the 6-speed manual and I get 30mpg consistanly. I drive pretty hard so if you go easier it may get 32. I also put in a K&N which I do on every vehicle I buy. I had mine in the shop and they gave me a sedan Versa with the CVT in it and I pulled about 34mpg out of it.Hope that helps.

Hey thanks for the info. I did fail to mention that the 2007 SL that I am looking at has the CVT transmission.

Anyone else want to provide their gas mileage? I would really appreciate it because I am going to look at this Versa SL tomorrow.

Thanks Again

Hi!

I have a '08 Versa SL that I bought brand new in July.

Have been getting better gas mileage since the first oil change.

My car has now 5500 km on the clock and I'm getting 30+ mpg out of it finally.

You'll love the car by the way. Lots of room, very comfy and gives a very good ride. Friends and family were very impressed with the little bugger.

Oh and you wont regret the CVT transmission!

Hi Rustyf7,

I have an 2008 Versa SL hatch with CVT trans and my lifetime avg over 21k miles is 32.4 mpg. my best tank was 41mpg and the worst was 29.0. It a great car and after many 2k to 3k trip in my car it is the most comfortable ride out there in my opinion. BTW it was purchased Nov. 2007

My mileage is listed in my signature. Pretty consistently gets about 34-35 in the summer and 30-31 in the winter with mostly highway driving, about half in the Blue Ridge Mountains and half in the Piedmont, which is just hilly.

My daughter also has a CVT and gets a little lower mileage because she's a little harder on it, but she's consistently over 30 mpg with about 20k miles on hers.

I've got an 07 s MT and I get a fairly consistent 29mpg combined. I use this website to track my fuel MPG, and there's a few other versa owners there too with their data:https://www.fueleconomy.gov/mp...Versa

I have an '09 SL with the CVT. Only one tank so far, and with nearly 99% short trip in town driving (I work close to home) I came in at 27.3 mpg.

This 2nd tank seems to be better, with similar driving patterns. I'm sure that 30+ mpg with a bit of highway driving would be the norm.

Mine is a 08 HB SL with CVT, bought new on dec 07; I have now 20k miles. I am commuting 80 miles/day on highway around 70-75 miles per hour and I get 30-32 mpg. So 80% highway, 20% stop and go - combined 28-30 mpg. I am not pushing hard (no more than 4000rpm). I have K&N air filter, Mobil1 fully synt changed every 7500 miles and Tanabe lowering springs.

Have an '08 SL CVT.

When commuting to work (95% city), it gets about 26.5 MPG average.

On highway trips (> 95% hwy), it gets about 26.25 MPG average.

No joke! It gets better fuel economy in the city than on the highway. We don't drive/accelerate hard, either.

I know there's a problem, had it in the dealer service center, but they keep blowing us off since the diagnostic computer/code reader can't find anything wrong. We're spending more than $200/year on gas than we should be.

I have an 08 SL hatchback with the CVT. When new I got 28mpg driving normally mixed city and highway. Now I take it easy to try to maximize mileage and I get 33-35 mpg every tank now. Im very please with this car so far.

No, we never exceed the speed limit, which is 70 MPH pretty much all the way to Kansas City and back, except for construction zones and town/city limit areas which drop to somewhere between 50-65 MPH.

For our last road trip, that was cruise control at 70 MPH or lower, not exceeding 2,800rpm when accelerating, using non-ethanol gas - we typically use 91oct premium, AC was not used since it was 45F out, and tires inflated 1 lb over factory rating.

How many people or how much cargo were you carrying at the time? I've noticed when it is just me I get about 33mpg between Tampa and Orlando. But if I have four full grown (physically...not mentally) adults in the car (including me) it drops down to the high twenties.

Myself, my wife, a suitcase weighing in at 42 lbs according to the airline scale, and a laptop and bag around 10 lbs. Oh, as well as a couple 12 oz cans of pop and a 1 liter bottle of water.

Yea, those cans of coke (generic for soda down here in the South ) will really kill your mileage. I'd stay away from them.

2009 SL CVT HB 3800 miles. ~80% highway in NYC the rest on the streets. Avg highway speed ~70mph. Routinely get 31mpg highest=34mpg/lowest=29mpg.

LOL yeah I really should refrain from carrying such extra mass. Probably pick up at least 5 MPG by just saying NO.

I have had mine 4 months and just went over 12,000 miles. 3 weeks ago I tracked my trip from Ohio to Virginia Beach.

My first tank took me through West Virginia and I got 26.65 miles per gallon. I maintained 70mph almost the whole time but the car hated climbing the hills.

My second tank was mostly flat road and I got 34.28 miles per gallon.

The entire time I have owned the car, aside from going through the mountains, I got over 30 miles per gallon. I did manage 40 miles per gallon one time but I feel the gas pump was inaccurate.

My wife is just about to turn 20k on her '07 SL we bought in May 2007. Her overall average is 30 MPG - her daily commute is about 50/50 urban/highway. Our best mileage was 34 MPG on an extended highway trip. We've been very pleased with the mileage-to-space ratio.

(without reading what everyone else read, sorry guys, here are my opinions:)

I have a 2007 CVT hatch (the Camel). I love it. I have a K&N filter and 40 psi in all the tires. I am heavy on the pedal, like to cruise the highway above 80, and I'm always "first off the line" at stop lights. I consistently get 33mpg on summer blend and around 27-29 on winter blend depending on other conditions (like how warm the car is - more driving while the car is warm is higher vs driving the car in between periods where it has time to cool down).

I drive mostly city now that I live in Louisville (because driving the highway during <40mph stop and go traffic does not count as highway, I don't care what Interstate you're on) so those aren't strictly highway numbers.

I have seen evidence that the Versa is not very consistent between one car and the next for mpg... we had a guy on here at the beginning who always got something ridiculous like 38-40 in his V. Some people complain about the low gas mileage, and I will admit that breaking in a V engine sucks for gas mileage (sometimes as crap as 17) but having been through 2, I can testify that it seems to rectify itself shortly after the break-in. Also, I highly recommend the gentle break-in for these cars. Seemed to yield better performance in my comparison. Keep in mind that was only 2 cars.

Every now and again, I pull the magical numbers on the highway (having achieved 40mpg 3 times and 44mpg once).

I firmly believe that for size, price, amenities, looks, and stability, it's the best on gas (and the most for your money if you spring for the SL). My housemate has an xA which gets slightly better mpg, but it weighs nothing, has no power, is f-in tiny inside, and the seats could honestly be switched out for hard plastic and I wouldn't notice because my bum already went numb after the first 20 minutes.

OMG, here's another thread on Versa milage!

This Versa forum has more posts from people agonizing over mpg numbers than any other site I have visited!

I have long given up on getting the posted (I know, "your mileage can vary") readings off the Nissan information on the car. I just filled up yesterday with 80% highway miles, no speeding or jack rabbit starts, and got 27.8 mpg's. at 19,500 miles I think it's broken in.

Was I suprised? No

My Versa SL with CVT has been a gas guzzler since mile one.

Do I hate the car? No

http://picasaweb.google.com/longo3002/VersaPics#

Buy the Versa for it's comfort, quiet ride, convenience, for leg room, head room, front and back seats that after 8 hours of driving still feel great, but don't buy if for great milage.

I'm getting between 35-38 mpg depending on how much city driving I do. Of course this is going the speed limit on a 55 mph highway with occasional spots of 65 mph. My key is to make sure my tires are inflated to proper psi, moderate acceleration(no jackrabbiting) and using the cruise control everywhere.

btw, when I bought my V the sticker said 29/31. You usually get better real world mileage with the 6 speed manual than with the CVT or automatic.

I have the CVT transmission. I keep my tires inflated and try to coast in to red lights and such. I avoid complete stops if I can.

I average 32-34 city, and 33-35 highway, but I have gotten up to 38.77mpg highway on one trip where we put 420 miles on the tank and only needed 10.8 gal gas.

*however* I did have one tank of gas that was like, 20mpg. That is because my SMRT husband was driving the car to work every day (2 miles) and the dope was warming it up for a full 15 minutes before each trip.

I find that if you drive well this car is capable of excellent MPG.
