"NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Nissan North America Inc. said Monday its U.S. sales jumped 6 percent last month, helped by the introduction of its Rogue crossover sport utility vehicle and big gains for its Versa subcompact.
Total sales rose to 80,683 vehicles, compared with 76,015 sold during the same period last year.
Sales of the Altima sedan, the Japanese automaker's best-selling car, rose 8.8 percent to 19,811 from 18,203. Versa sales surged by about two-thirds, to 5,561 from 3,324. Nissan sold 5,650 Rogue SUVs last month.
Nissan-brand sales rose 6.8 percent to 70,079, from 65,633 vehicles previously. Sales of the company's luxury Infiniti brand increased 2.1 percent to 10,604 from 10,382 vehicles.
Truck sales edged 1 percent higher at Nissan, but fell 5.8 percent at Infiniti.
So far this year, Nissan's U.S. sales have risen 5.1 percent to 978,683 vehicles, from 927,474 during the same period in 2006. Adjusted for one additional selling day this year, sales are up 5.2 percent."
