Versa rattling noise at idle

I bought my Versa a week ago and love the car. However at idle the car makes a rattling noise which grows louder with engine strain (A/C on, using electric windows, pressure applied to brake pedal, etc...) The car stops once gas is applied, or if the car is taken out of drive (or reverse) and put into park. This is very annoying since it occurs at every stoplight.

After several rounds with the dealer, who has been very easy to work with, they are going to replace the motor mounts since they feel the root cause of the problem is the engine vibrating too much. This is causing a brake line (I think) to rub the firewall which is the source of the noise. (Already reset the idle-control computer, which helped the engine run smoother).

I love the car, but am disappointed this showed up immediately after I got it home from the dealer (20 miles on the car).

Anybody have a similiar problem? Know any solutions? Do new engine mounts sound like a reasonable next step?

Thanks

That sounds reasonable, but it could also be a host of other things, from a loose inspection plate or other engine part to something wrong with the transmission shifter or torque converter.

I know how frustrating that can be, the clutch started slipping on Versa #1 less than 24 hours after I took it home. At least your dealer believes you, I had to go on 2 test drives with my first dealer before they believed me, even though the problem was EASY to replicate.

Jamesan-

I am experiencing a similar problem, took it to the dealer and they were unable to replicate the problem, thus offered no solution. Was your dealership able to fix the issue? Thanks!
