(another Ever Victorious Versa anecdote)

Yeah... I'm driving the Hyundai today because the Versa is out of commission. Not the Versa's fault, really... and I can blame Canada for this one! (South Park joke... I like our northern neighbors)

So I get up at 6:30 this morning, go through my morning routine to get ready for work. Toss my stuff into the Versa and hit the door to open the garage.

Nothing. OK... sometimes the door just doesn't open, it forgets that I hit the switch. Hit it again, it goes down about a quarter inch. That's odd... hit it again, it goes up a quarter inch... CRAP.

My garage door is frozen shut. Can't get the Versa out. But it's a 1-car garage, so the Hyundai is sitting outside. Cold, but at least I can get to work in it.

We'll see if my wife blows a gasket that she can't go anywhere today...

(Oh, and why am I "blaming" Canada? All that bloody cold air that came out of the Frazier River Valley last night)

When it's cold enough to freeze your garage door shut, I believe you're allowed to go back to bed! On a side note, couldn't you just release the opener and do it manually?

That's just not right...

In orlando, it was in the 40s over night, in the 60s currently. Not 85, that's just toasty.

Sadly, the manual release mechanism was also frozen...

It's made a great story for my co-workers this morning, though... they needed a laugh.

It's almost 30 degree where you are.

It was -15 overnight here. Today it's going to warm up to 10 above and we're going to get 6 inches of snow.

I don't feel bad for you.

Ya, woke up to -28C [-18F] -- it's "warmed up" to 7F [at 1:00].

Cold enough to freeze . . . you know.

[edit]Oh, and I thought about plugging it in last night [about 9:30] but I couldn't find the cord. Left side, right side . . . too cold to keep searching so I just hoped for the best. No problems. Nice!

I guess it just goes to show you that you Americans can't handle our cold weather. My temperature here just north of you was the same and my garage door was just fine. Send that same air down your way and it freezes you into your garage. Another sign of Canadian superiority?? Hmmmm....

Maybe one of your neighbours (yes, there's a "u" in it) hosed down your garage overnight. Or maybe your garage door was imported from California.

Hey E.V.

Looks like you are getting your lumps here on this one.. it was -32 last night where I live in Alberta...a major exporter of frigid arctic air, to the U.S.

I think the funniest part of this story is that you just cranked up the Wifes Hyundai, stranding her at home, and drove to work, while your Versa was frozen into the garage.

I'll bet she has the door open by now and is driving your car....

Somene from Vancouver slagging someone about cold weather? What's that about? Visit TROC -- except Toronto, who calls in the military to remove snow for them [I can't let that one go ] before making fun of a poor Yank [can I say that on this board? ] who struggles with so-called cold.

I couldn't see exactly why the release was frozen, but my guess is that it was stuck/frozen due to low temperature. My garage isn't original, it's barely considered "attached", and is not insulated. There's also a small horizontal gap at the top of the door, so the temp in the garage was also below freezing.

Door may not be Californian. At least snow falls in places in Cali. I bet you the door is Floridian. They don't know what to do when it's 60...

(and yes, I realized that this thread would open up the whooparse from Canadians and/or Cheese-heads)

Actually I was born in Ottawa and lived in London Ont for a lot of years. I DO know cold, but have been spoiled living here in Vancouver. I was just bugging EV cuz Vancouver and Everett get pretty much the same weather and yet his garage door was frozen. Aww....never mind.....I'm sure EV got it.

Yeah, I did. Vancouver is a HAIR cooler because it's not as protected as Everett is, but I got it.

Is there such thing as a Vancouverite that didn't move from somewhere else to escape the ? [he says jealously, sick already of the cold, andt his winter hasn't been too bad here. Just glad I no longer live in Winnipeg!].

And . . . ya.

Plus the loss you guys are grieving about there in Green Bay; I'll bet that makes the day a little more miserable.

I'm not a packer fan.. so I'm not too bothered personally. But, since everybody else is hating life right now.. it tends to harm the overall morale pretty severely.

It's funny to see them take their lumps though.. They were all convinced they were bound for the Superbowl.
