Here's why:

You can't order the sunroof package unless you order the upgraded sound package, and you can't order the upgraded sound package unless you order the XM or Satellite Package.

Maybe they should name the sunroof package "Annoy Thy Neighbor" package since the sunroof is for you to belt out the hard bass on satellite radio.

But seriously, Nissan really knows the ABCs of consumer psychology and marketing. Come out with a $12K base model, make you salivate with the options, teases you with a sunroof, and you end up getting sound and subscription-based satellite that you may not really need. And of course before you know it, you have already bought a car that is about 60% more than the base, and if you buy the $1500 extended warranty (the 36,000 mile is just too little), wow! you have exceeded the $20k barrier!

This is superb marketing 101. Sell the car at a loss, make a killing on the options!
