Strange question, considering that VERY few car names mean anything at all. Most are just made-up "words."

The Versa is a rare exception. Nissan says they chose the name because it reflects the car's versatility. The name for the car in other markets is Tiida, which doesn't mean anything that I'm aware of.

I think in general the name doesnt directly mean anything.

However, they arent chosen randomly, and often go well with the type of car:

Excursion, Expedition, X-Trail, Pathfinder, Commander. They are all names for an SUV. They give a feeling of size and power.

Avalon, Maxima, Camry: They give a feeling of size, class and refinement.

Tiburon means "Shark" and in the first version of the car, the spoiler was similar to a sharks dorsal fin and it had gills.

Versa was short for "Versatile" implying the car is just that.

Fit: is used to describe that you can fit anything into the vehicle.

The addition of the number "5" typically means a 5door hatchback: Rio5, Protege 5 for example.

The word 'TIIDA' means the ever changing "tide" or "Dawn of a new day".

So, it means almost the same as Versa denoting versatility or the ability of adapting to any situation.

By the way, I remember that a few years ago I found an article in some car magazine that explained (or tried to) what the letters on cars ment. Does anyone have a clue on what they mean??

SL = Super Luxurious???DX, XG-L, SE...???

At one point the letters meant something. Now I dont think it's the case. SE was standard or sport edition depending. LE was Luxury Edition. Now I dont think most mean anything. More letters the more you spent though.

Typically, the model suffixes mean the following;

SE = Sport EditionSLE = Sports LuxuryDX = DeluxeE (early Nissan) = EconomyXE = Extra, EconomyGXE = LX = LuxuryS = SportSL = Sport LuxuryR = RiceLTD = Limited LT = Luxury Truck (GM uses this one... and on their cars... dumbasses)XLT = Extra Luxury TruckSLT = Slut Edition

Does this help?

Remember the "Brougham" edition? Fleetwood Brougham. My dad used to have an AMC Ambassador Brougham.

Most of them don't mean much of anything.SE is sport. SL is luxury. S is "base" even though some cars have a no-trim base model below that.GXE meant different things. At first it meant luxury and was the old "SL". Later it was a base model designation, and GLE was the lux trim label.XE is primarily a truck thing (although there was a Stanza XE). It was the lowest trim level.There was also a Maxima SE-L for a year or two.

There was a Brougham edition of the same model Maxima I drive.

Fleetwood was a coachbuilder who was later incorporated into GM. A lot of GM cars from the 60s to the 80s have "Body by Fleetwood" labels on them, and there were special Fleetwood editions of others (My old 1984 Cadillac Coupe DeVille was a Fleetwood edition).The Fleetwood Brougham was a special Caddy model that was usually very distinctive from the rest of the Caddy lineup. In the early 90s, for instance, it was the only RWD Cadillac, and was powered by a Corvette-derived V8.

Close. It is actually "Gran turismo omologato" which is Italian, befitting it's Ferrari origins.

Back in '87, my mom drove a dark blue 1978 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham... makes me shiver just thinking about that beast... I would love to own one now. Some jerk sideswiped it and ran. I think we got rid of that car shortly afterwards, when my father bought a 1964 Ford Falcon (beautiful condition).
