I replaced my muffler with a cheap custom one it sounds decent with a deep tone but it seems to me it's louder in the cab than it actually is outside. I'm thinking of taking off my resonator which appears to be the size of the muffler so I know it will make it louder i just wonder if it will be TOO loud to where it sounds nasty like your muffler simply fell off? If anyone has done this please let me know what it sounded like my Versa is a 2011 SL with a 1.8 and CVT. Thanks for your help! :dblthumb

No resonator and it sounds great!

I don't know the brand but it has a normal tip and is quiet until you get above 2000 rpms. It cost $200 so it is probably a cheap knock off of the higher end brands.

Not to mention that the muffler probably shouldn't have fallen off yet... or am I crazy? I may be crazy, but my muffler failed and some exhaust bits fell off back in May (April?)... after my cat failed in October/November (2011). :/

I replaced my resonator with a cherry bomb glass pack a while ago. boy was it a waste of time and money, it hardly made a difference!

IMO, If you're going racing, you want a totally unrestricted exhaust flow. However on a street car. The factory resonator will not hurt performance.
My system is all factory with a Stillen "axleback" muffler. This setup produces a nice mellow exhaust tone below 3K RPM.
It only starts to "bark" over 4K RPM. At idle my neighbor's diesel pickup is loader.

Happy Holidays To All
