I am thinking about buying an 09 Versa Hatchback, but there is one factor that will decide which package I will buy. And that factor is the car's compatibility with iPhones.

I have an iPhone 3G and I want to be able to easily make/answer calls and control my music through the iPod and bluetooth interface. Does anyone have experience with using an iPhone in their Versa?

How compatible is it? Is it possible to navigate your music library through the steering wheel controls? Are there any tricks to get it working? Does hands-free calling work like it should?

I can't speak to the music control, but the hands-free phone should work just fine unless iPhones are totally different than other phones. I've used an old Rzar and a brand-new Blackberry in mine, and both connected and worked beautifully right away.

(The phonebook, however, is kept in the car and doesn't use the one in the phones. But once it's set up, it's really nice to tell the car, "Call Home" and have it take it from there. The incoming audio is great over the stereo, and the outgoing is like any speakerphone, but quite clear on the other end.)

There is another thread on here about the iPhone - apparently anything past the first generation iPhone will work with the music interface, but the iPod interface will not charge the iPhone anymore. This is due to Apple's 3.0 software upgrade.

As for using the controls on the radio for the iPod functionality - I have an iPod Touch - essentially the same as the iPhone.

The controls are good. Not great, but good. You can maneuver to playlists (and even the Podcasts section - to my happy surprise) - you can play them in order, or set them to shuffle. Once you learn the controls it's pretty easy. The only thing is that the radio only has a one line display, so you have to push the DISP button to cycle through the Artist, Song etc... on the track that is playing. Also - there is no indicator showing the length of the track.

It's a good basic setup to control the iPod, and it works. I like having my iPod hidden away in the top compartment.

So beware the non-charging - that COULD be a problem if you take a long trip - in which case you might be better off having the iPhone on a window or vent mount, plugged into the AUX port with a charging cable run to the power jack in the center console.

Jaibroken Devices allow an app that cost 2$ on cydia store to charge with whatever cable you buy even on firmware 3.X

I own a 3gs, Audio call/transmission and reception are working great; just don't forget that that kind of reception is Mono and NOT stereo. This is a sad reality with bluetooth handset protocol. Same thing for Iphone 3G model.

Now,Iphone 3g and iphone 3gs has Bluetooth Stereo capability while streaming music over any A2DP Bluetooth receiver; the receiver on the versa doesn't support AD2P and will never do. That's why I installed a receiver that allows that ;-) See my other thread concerning AVN726e installation.

Cheers

I have an iPhone 3GS and the bluetooth hands free talking works great. I haven't tried to connect it and play music cause I don't have that cable..

I just bought a Harmon Kardon Drive + Play, works great with my iPod and you can navigate with a little screen on your desk so you don't have to look away from the road!

I just got the 3GS this past Friday and paired it up yesterday and it works perfectly

There is no way to use the steering wheel controls to control the ipod unless you buy the special package through Nissan. I believe some ppl here have the ipod package; if you have that then you can control the ipod from your steering wheel.
