I just got my Versa a month ago and I know it is a long way off but I was just wondering how it handles in the snow?

It handles fine IMO, it all depends on:

- brand of tires- treadwear- how you drive

I've only peeled out a couple times because I gave too much gas. Overall, not bad, if I spent money on better quality tires then I'd have better traction.

It handles well, imo. I bought Hankook winter tires and they were great. Didn't get stuck once, or slide around alot.

You definatly need snow tires. Without them, it is not good at all, my old civic was way better on all seasons than my versa is on snows. When it snows, my V is in the garage and I'm driving our Subaru Outback for a couple days.

Really? You never drove your Versa when it snowed? Did you buy snow tires for it?The Versa is my only car so I had no choice but I never had a problem with her. I felt that it handled great.

Funny, ADO . . . been through 2 winters on the stock Contis and I've had no problems in the snow . . . and the first year was a good initiation.

Some have had handling issues; others not.

I did once, then after that I was like why bother when I have the outback with Nokian Hakka R snow tires at my disposal. Maybe I just think its worse than it is because I'm used to the subie?

The Versa HB handles very well in the snow (ignoring the bad tires). Its weight distribution is like 53/47 - which is pretty darn to perfect for a car in this price range.

2009 Civics are like 60/40 and the Fit is even more front heavy.

I have the 6-Speed Manual, and I would not reccomend it for anything more than slushy roads, or a light dusting. I got stuck several times this winter. But the conditions were terrible when i got stuck. I did make a few highway trips during or after snow storms, which were terrible and very scary.

I guess it depends on the weather that you usually get and if you have anything else to drive in the weather. I am currently looking to trade my V, not because I hate it, I actually love it. But because of where I now live, I am envisioning a very tough winter driving it to work daily.

And with all honesty, I am a good, but not excellent winter driver.

There was a thread about this just a few months ago and people were pretty split. Some reported no problems at all while others, like me, were outraged at the poor quality of the stock conti's. I've never driven on a worse set of tires. No matter how slowly I drove in the winter, literally EVERY stop sign I would slide to a stop and then have a tough time pulling away. I know it sounds like I'm exaggerating, but I'm not. I almost pulled my hair out in frustration while I saved my money for new tires. I'm not saying you will have the same experience--most haven't. All I can guess is that Continental has issues with quality control.

I define it as "either you can drive in snow/ice/slush, or you can't.
I drove past a imprezza stuck in a snowbank beside the road because the guy hit snow inbetween lanes and spun out... doing ~50kp/h in a straight line.
I was in a 2005 Hyundai Accent 5 hatch and was fine.

Ginsu is right "I've never driven on a worse set of tires." They are also very poor in wet weather. I also have a manual transmission.
