Yesterday I drove my 6 speed versa through nearly a half a mile of unplowed show 12 inches deep or more on the way to work. Stock Continental tires. The bottom was dragging on the snow but it never got stuck. This car is pretty awesome.

Versa ground clearance is a little too small. Bulk of ice falling off big SUVS could easily drag the underbody. Besides that, it performs well on the snow

Me thinks the 6 sp much better in snow than CVT. Low on CVT too narrow band to mimic 2nd. Wish I had snow tires.

Having for many years driven in snow I find that my 08 Versa with 6 speeds does great. The way you drive has much to do with traction especially on hills. You need the right combination of speed and the RPMs behind it. Not excessive however. I have passed many an irate driver stuck on a hill.

Drove my 6 spd last winter with just the stock Continentals and didn't have any problem. It was the worst winter in Ottawa for 30 yrs or so. I now have 4 snows on and it drives even better.

When driving in snow & especially ice (black ice surface) - go slow with winter tires if you want optimal traction. And, I put my 4 Speed Auto in 2nd. gear just to be sure. It's amazing many drivers never figure out how to use the lower gears on an automatic transmission.

Driving skills on CVT are a little bit different - practice on an empty parking lot with spaces for possible spinouts to get comfortable with the V's capabilities.

(P.S. - I do this even when driving the CRV with AWD running winter tires over unplowed & secondary roads in deep snow.

I'm not that impressed with the stock tires on my V. Of course I've had real snow tires on all my other cars. My other vehicle has "summer performance" tires on it, that definitely was worse than the Conti's for the week or so before the snows arrived. Next winter there definitely will be snow tires on my V.
