Hi guys, I'm new here and was wondering if a Versa is good for a first car. Cost is out of the question. Im hoping to get a SL with a convenience and sport package. Cost shouldn't be an issue because my dad is paying and my uncle is a Nissan salesman. Any insight appreciated.

I could have only wished I had a car that nice for my first car. When I turned 16, my dad bought me an 18 year old, $75 Subaru that had holes rusted in the floorboards and a carb that would flood if you took a left turn too fast.

So yeah, the V would be a great first car. Not enough power to get you into a lot of trouble, but a very nice car to haul friends around in, and keep at least some of your change in your wallet through its gas savings.

Lucky bastard. I wish my parents bought me such a nice car.

My first was a '90 blazer. Friend gave it to me who did sheetmetal work. The back looked like a bunch of robots had an orgy back there and the power steering wheel was welded on crooked after it came off so every couple weeks the cable would snap and the car would die.

Why yes, I am a lucky bastard. Thanks for the replies guys. Oh, and what color should I go for? I'm stuck between Blue Onyx and Sapphire Blue.

First, I hate you. My first car was a '68 Austin Mini with bad CV joints that I bought for $75. As for the color, between the blue onyx and the blue sapphire I would go with black.

Sorry, didn't think I'd anger someone. I was just asking a question.

No no. I'm saying I hate you the way my kids say I hate you to me. They don't mean they actually hate me. At least....I don't THINK they actually hate me. I'm just envious of the fact that you get a new car for your first car and my first car was a $75 piece of crap that you had to slam the door to make the headlights come on. But its all good. You'll love your new Black Versa.

I kinda had a feeling that's what you meant, but I wasn't sure. I just wanted to make sure. BTW, was it really $75?

Yes it was literally $75. Had some rust and very noisy CV joints. You could hear me coming around a corner from a block away. But man was it fun to drive. I drove the hell out of it for almost a year. Then I bought a '67 Ford LTD for $200. You could almost park the Mini in the trunk of the Ford. BTW....I'm old.

Man, I'd do anything for a genuine Austin Mini! Kudos on the first car! My first car was a free 1987 VW GTI with the 8 valve engine. Took me three years and $3,000 to make it roadworthy... After all the work, the body rotted to nothing after only 6 months, and the motor began spitting out injectors... literally. And it would overheat if you looked at it wrong (all new cooling system, everything worked as it should, but the owners manual claimed the car would overheat randomly, and it did). The car came factory without power steering or air conditioning. God I miss that heap... The only car with the fahrvergnugen built right in! No installation needed!

Blue Onyx.. I couldn't be happier with mine, it was between that and silver and I'm so glad I got blue...

I also vote for Blue Onyx. It looks almost black when it's in the shade, and it's a brilliant dark blue in bright light.

As for the battle of the $75 cars... I also forgot to mention that it had some electrical issues. After a wiring harness fire, and the subsequent repair, it had an interesting quirk... In that pulling the lights knob to position 1 (parking lights) would do nothing. Position 2 (headlights) would turn on only the parking lights. Then, you hit the high beam switch... and you would get one high beam and one normal beam. Also, the right rear door MIGHT fly open during a hard turn, and the shift knob was not actually secured... which was pretty funnyif you had a new passenger, you could just rip it off and yell "oh my god" and freak the living crap out of them, it was great. :P

hmmm between those two, I would opt for Blue Onyx, but if black were an option, I would get black! That is what I have, a black SL. And as the Versa for a first car, it is PERFECT!! At 17, this is my 2nd car, my first was a 94 Suzuki Sidekick which I am currently overhauling since one thing wrong, turned into a whole lifetime of projects I need to do to fix it, and my first car was FREEEEE!!! lolz. BTW welcome to the forums! So what dealer does your uncle work at? I hope he doesn't work at Performance! Anywho hope to see you around, I live in South Pas.

ShantIt's a great choice for a first car and for the color if you can see both side by side at the dealer it should be easier to choose.....either color you will have a blast with the Versa.

I would choose Saph Blue because that's what I'm getting, hehe.

Also I got lucky. My first car I bought in 2003 and it was a 2002 VW Beetle. It was my dream car, and well I bought it :-) But now I realize that I should go with something Japanese for the long run.

my first was an old 87 jetta i paid 700$ for lol.

i guess im in the group that has always had to pay 100% of everything related to driving since day 1.

makes you appreciate things more i guess, typical answer tho

but im sure you'd be pleased!

i believe the versa is a very good first car. its very economical, spacey, and has big windows that allow for very clear viewing of the road around you. the only downside i can see with the versa is maybe the large C pillar. but you will adjust to it and get use to it over time =)

This is my first "real" car and I am so so excited. Unfortunately I'm stuck with paying for it myself, but it's completely worth it.

As for colour, I would say Sapphire Blue. I love the fact it's brighter. We don't have Blue Onyx here, but I'm assuming it's what's Blueberry here. So definitely Sapphire Blue for sure :p
