Hey guys, just got my brand new versa 2 hours ago and Im feelin good. Anyways, before I got it, I had been borrowing my moms sentra and the first thing i noticed when i drove my versa home was that it just flew compared to the sentra. The versa is faster than I thought! When i drove the sentra, it took forever for it to pick up Soo, does anyone else agree or have i just been driving slow cars??

You've just been driving slow cars. I had a 2.4L Honda Accord that had a lot more passing power at speeds over 40mph. Before that, my Toyota Corolla was 200lbs lighter and had 3 more HP and better aerodynamics, so it also accelrated better at all speeds, despite the taller gear ratios.

Where the Versa beats those cars is zipping up to 50mph form a dead stop with it's short gearing and close ratio 6 speed.

What year is your mom's sentra? The current base model have a different 1.8 liter 4 cylinder than the Versa, and it makes 4 more horsepower and 2 more lb ft of torque. It weights about 200 lb less, and has the same transmission options, minus the CVT.Older ones had a less powerful 1.6 liter.

it was a 2003, its the gxe, not sure but i think its 1.8L engine, with 126 hp. Thats more than versa so i assumed that i would be getting less response from the sentra. I actually fellt like it gave more response than my old taurus too but taht was the 94 model and for its huge size it only had like 155 hp with a 3.0 v6. then again both those cars had been babied before i drove them, (my mom has never gotten a speeding ticket in 27 years! and the taurus was driven by my dad for 10 years only in city miles, hardly went on highway cuz it was the "drive to work and come back home" car) Im thinking thats why both cars dont really perform as well cuz they havent really pushed the cars in so long and plus i got a very heavy foot compared to them.

I'm used to driving my Dodge (torque heavy truck) that didn't begin to take off until you hit about 3000 rpms. When I went to test drive the Versa, the acceleration was like night and day. I was up to 60mph on the street way faster than my truck under moderate acceleration.

I saw the the performance specs from the MotorTrend comparo in august issue.

Versa SL CVT

0-30 3.3 sec-40 5.0-50 7.1-60 9.7-70 13.3

Honda Fit 0-60 11.9 sec and Yaris sedan 10.4. Both automatic trans.Manual Versa is 9.5 sec 0-60Im not sure how much slower the 4 spd versa is but its probably around 10.5sec 0-60.

CVT is a better choice if you cant drive a manual and still want performance.

Remember you're supposed to be breaking the car in.
