I am looking to upgrade the factory radio to one with xm. I plan on getting the factory xm head unit from a salvage car, but my question is will I have to replace the antenna along with the radio? Any other parts involved in the swap? Will I need to to have the vin of the old car to activate the radio?

Thanks!

You shouldn't need any extra parts for this swap that I know of. I have the factory HU that offers satellite radio but I haven't activated it so I'm also not sure if you need to have the vin #. But I really doubt that you do.

But to the reason why I posted on this thread is to instead of purchasing an expensive HU for satellite radio purposes you should just consider purchasing an iPod. Satellite radio is alright, but think about it. Spending like what $200-$300 for the upgraded HU when you can spend $250 on a BRAND NEW 80gb iPod classic! Hell it even plays videos! Your HU won't do that for $250! Plus you can be your own little DJ and pick whatever song fulfill your needs!

My V is also an S and I have done a little research on getting XM. You would have to get a headunit, an XM tuner and an antenna. Very expensive to do. But if you have access to a salvage SL with all the parts you might be able to pick it up cheap. I think the tuner is in the rear panel on the driver's side.
