I was travelin on highway.. the car is just hit the 3,000K miles on odometer... then all of a sudden... it started jolting on me.. a little at first.. then more later... then it died... I started it again.. and it ran for a bit.. then jolted. then died... then I turned off my headlights.. and it ran fine but check engine light was on.. but if I turned on my headlights.. it died again... the only mods I have are H.I.D. kit which worked fine for the past 3 months on the car... so I swapped in the stock bulbs on the middle of the highway.. next morning car ran fine and the engine light was off.. what gives?? I dont think the HID kit would effect the car? and if so.. its been on the car for 3 months previous without a problem.... is it bad fuel?

i dont know jack about electrical but could it have been drawing too much power? i would install original lights and get it checked out by the dealer.ninjapleazee wrote:

I was telling myself the same thing, wondering why you were asking him how he hooked them up!? The dealer will be no help in this situation as the HIDs are not factory equipment, and the could possibly void his warranty.CodeRed wrote:i dont know jack about electrical but could it have been drawing too much power? i would install original lights and get it checked out by the dealer.
I removed the HID and its scheduled for dealer checkup tomorrow morningClipsed wrote:I was telling myself the same thing, wondering why you were asking him how he hooked them up!? The alternator would not be the case, as HIDs only use 35W which is less than the 55W stock bulbs, the only thing is the spike in power needed to ignite the gas inside the bulb. If the alternator was the problem, I would be having problems running my 1500W stereo system, which I run with no problems at all, so the alternator has more than enough juice to power up HIDs. I am very curious as to how you are going to explain to the dealer your symtoms, as that is a vital piece of info, they are not going to know what to look for and what was causing the problem.BenzTech Gone Versa wrote:sounds like your alternator might be at fault.i got hid's on my car too.hella off of a benz.the alternator on these cars are small also,i feel the ildle go up n down if i shut a window and have the radio on!n i would not tell them u had hid's on ur car!leave the hid's off 4 now.what name brand are they?
i agree with this too. on my former car my alternator basically went out. every time i got a jump start i could last for a few mins with my lights on. But in the morning i got a new battery, pop it in, and drove it to the shop my mom goes too. My car had roughly the same symptom. it would sputter and then die because the car wasn't getting enough spark from the spark plug so my car was running uber Rich at the time. then dies.mintra wrote:I kinda had the same experience on my previous car. It turns out to be the alternator. I don't know if yours is the case, I'd take it to dealer to be sure though.
That can certainly cause a damper on things.ninjapleazee wrote:well, I brought the car in on Wednesday and just got it back today, they said the problem was a faulty crank sensor and they replaced it.
