Im thinking abut buying a Versa for the gas milage and low price. Are they a good dependable car ? A basic plain jane stick shift is what I want .What is the average price?

Of course they are good dependable cars :] I would buy one brand new, personally, if absolute reliability is what you're shooting for. They range at a dealership from like $11k-$15k on average depending on what package you get. If you want a tip, don't buy or talk to the salesman out on the lot, ask to speak to an internet sales manager. The guys outside HAVE to sell you the car at MSRP, where-as the internet sales department can sell you the car at invoice, which is what I paid for mine :D

The base 5-spd with litle power options comes in at $10k new. Fully loaded are about $16k. We already have members hitting 100 and 200k miles with theirs and little problems.

As with any car, don't expect the mileage to be what the big numbers on the sticker show. It should be within the range shown in the smaller print farther down, but very few of us get the top numbers. (I have the advantage of a long highway commute in fairly mild weather, and the car actually seems to do better in hills than on flat roads.)

But the car itself is great. We own three and are considering a fourth. 110k on the first, 60k on the second and 27k on the third and no problems. Obviously, we like them! (All CVT's, though, which runs the price up from the base.)

I've got the 1.8S, hatch, manual and without the power option lol! My last tank got me 31.8mpg mixed highway and city driving. I'm not an aggressive driver but i do use the A/C a fair bit... Florida is just a bit warmer than Ireland lol! My worst so far has been 28mpg.

I've had mine so far 6 months and put 5,500 on it. Very smooth wee car, not a lot of engine/road noise at all. The 6 speed gearbox is very nice! Stock stereo is decent enough as well for what it is, speakers are quite good too for the radio or the odd CD. Decent amount of cargo room with the seats down it's hard to beat. One of the things I really liked about this car vs the competition was the fact that's it's heavier and bigger, feels better made and less like a small tin can, price! I also liked the crash test results vs the competition too.

I paid.. out the door inc tax, title, tag, dealer fees.. etc $13,500. Unbelievable for a brand new car and a Nissan too!

If you don't need anything fancy, get a 1.6 manual. Out the door price will be cheap and you should definitely get the gas mileage you want. I don't think any of the base Versas have a radio but everyone ends up putting in their own radio anyways since the basic stock one sucks so much.

A base here in Ontario is around 12-14K ... mine was $21K before tax as I got mine fully loaded with every option.

I just have fun while driving my car. I have started to document my fuel since December of 09 ... (However, I purchased her in April 08). Over the last 10 tanks my mpg avg is 24mpg. AND I'm totally happy with that :D Love my little HK mobile!

If you go for a 1.6 good luck finding one! lol My original goal was to buy a black 1.6 manual with air and the power option but was told there were what 1 or 2 of them out there which would have to be shipped in or I'd have to drive to get one! One dealer I talked to and I kept their email too.. said that it didn't make business sense for them to stock the 1.6 . Then again that dealer also more or less demanded that I pay the sticker price! Another dealer told me, "you don't want the 1.6 it's junk"! I wouldn't say junk, just a lot more stripped down lol.. Of course they want to sell you more but still.

Anyway what I paid out the door vs what I would have paid for a 1.6 wasn't a huge amount of money anyway and I really did want a hatch the 1.6's seats don't even fold down? Seriously how cheap is that lol!! I get the feeling the 1.6 was brought into the world so Nissan's big mouth dept (also known as marketing) can run lying adverts in the press that you can have a new Versa for $9,900 which as we all know is total and utter s***. I'm sure someone could find a way to us we could have a new IPad for $225 if they put it in the small print that only covers the cost of parts.. profits and taxes would be additional lol.

Wasn't aware that the 1.6 base had power anything. Nissan USA site doesn't show it...

Is it a marketing ploy? Yep. But, you can order the 1.6L base for $9,990. Most dealers don't carry them or order them because their profits on them isn't probably much or anything. And really, how likely are you to add extras, warranties, etc. if you want the basic car? Probably not likely to add anything in there that they can turn a buck on. We have a couple in our fleet at the plant. They do exist.

Do you think the company that brought Godzilla (the GT-R) back would accompany it with a unicorn Versa (i.e. a fairy tale creature that doesn't exist)? :poke:

I'd like to see a picture of your unicorn, complete with wings and horn! lol Seriously thought yes I'm kinda annoyed that the adverts are misleading but this is America and I'm still adjusting to how some things are sold here. Overall though the 1.8 hatch is great car for the money. Next time around I'd be sure to consider another Nissan and would likely buy something a bit further up the food chain.

I didn't have any problem finding a base 1.6 sedan around here. Our local dealer had 2 with auto, air, stereo and power windows and mirrors. They gave me a deal I couldn't refuse on the black sedan in the showroom and they didn't even try to sell me any extras.

I put 17,000 km on it since Aug 2009 and the only service is 2 oil changes and seasonal tire changes. My Versa averages 7.88 litres per 100 kilometres, 29.85 to the US gallon, 35.56 miles to the Imperial gallon in mixed driving and weather.

It's nicely finished, can't tell it is a base model in black with black trim, quiet, roomy, surprisingly quick and my 80 something year old parents, who have great difficulty with such things, say it the easy car to get in and out of. I have owned about 8 cars and the Versa has the most leg room. The only negative I have is that the car is susceptible to strong cross winds on the highway.

I think the 1.6 is a good car in my experience.

I hate my Versa... total and utter crap. I'm so unhappy with my car, that I troll this forum waiting for someone to ask if it's a good car so I can let them know the truth!

(um... hopefully you can tell by my signature that this isn't the case. You are asking a question of a very biased audience)

I've got over 75k on the Camel and I love it. I average 28mpg (down from 33mpg when I didn't drive city traffic every day) and when I'm on long trips and can really let the Camel get into a good grove at about 80mph, I get a 40mpg tank (surrounded by 30's so, no, it's not an error) which makes me really happy.

I bought it because of styling, personal preference over others in the segment, and the legroom (both front and back) is excellent... I've got more legroom in the back of my Camel than my mom has in her huge Forester. I was also better able to fit all my camping gear in the Camel (everything was under the back window in the Camel, but in the Forester half the window was blocked)... I still haven't figured out how that worked exactly...

I have the CVT and it is the best for highway though the manual would be better for the city driving I do now - I have to let the Camel run at highway speed at least once per week or I really notice the CVT "acting up" ... I guess putting over 60k on a car on the open highway, then trapping it in city traffic will do that... I notice that the CVT isn't as peppy when giving it a little extra gas around 60, it's time for a drive to stretch the CVT belt at 70 or 80. The CVT also doesn't really like parking on an incline... I always make sure to switch the transmission into the gear that's the same direction as the car will settle/roll (if the nose is up, I shift into Reverse and let the transmission switch before I place it in park, if the nose is down, I make sure the transmission is switched into Drive before I put it in park so that when the car rolls onto the e-brake (or the engine brake/transmission/however that works) it doesn't put undue pressure onto the CVT...) if I don't do this, it is hard to shift out of park.

I got mine fully loaded and the only problem I've had with it was the service bulletin fuel pump regulator issue. Seeing as I've not owned it 3 years yet and I got a fully loaded car so that in 5 years I wouldn't be tempted by something with features (I had wanted to not have a car payment) I really hope that the Camel will hold out for many many more miles... I had wanted to own it for 7 - 10 years... at this rate the car will have 200k at 7 years... not counting the miles not reflected on the odo (oversized tire package)...

My sig fig and I are considering purchasing another car so we can keep the miles off the Camel but since we already have 3 in the driveway and his '72 Nova is still at his parent's house... ... we are so THOSE people...

('04 Chevy Silverado, Charlene and an '04 Chevy Monte Carlo SS Supercharged, Christine. Both cherry red for those who are curious...) When I first met him we really clicked, but once he showed me his truck and told me her name was "Charlie" I knew it was true love ;oD

Now I did find 1.6's that were exactly as you describe! I was looking for a manual which were not as easy to find almost impossible to find a black manual with just the bare bones. Which is why I ended up with a 1.8 which I'm very happy with as I really did want the hatchback although I suspect if I had of found the 1.6 I wanted I'd have no doubt been every bit as happy with it.
