I hate my Versa... total and utter crap. I'm so unhappy with my car, that I troll this forum waiting for someone to ask if it's a good car so I can let them know the truth!
(um... hopefully you can tell by my signature that this isn't the case. You are asking a question of a very biased audience)
I've got over 75k on the Camel and I love it. I average 28mpg (down from 33mpg when I didn't drive city traffic every day) and when I'm on long trips and can really let the Camel get into a good grove at about 80mph, I get a 40mpg tank (surrounded by 30's so, no, it's not an error) which makes me really happy.
I bought it because of styling, personal preference over others in the segment, and the legroom (both front and back) is excellent... I've got more legroom in the back of my Camel than my mom has in her huge Forester. I was also better able to fit all my camping gear in the Camel (everything was under the back window in the Camel, but in the Forester half the window was blocked)... I still haven't figured out how that worked exactly...
I have the CVT and it is the best for highway though the manual would be better for the city driving I do now - I have to let the Camel run at highway speed at least once per week or I really notice the CVT "acting up" ... I guess putting over 60k on a car on the open highway, then trapping it in city traffic will do that... I notice that the CVT isn't as peppy when giving it a little extra gas around 60, it's time for a drive to stretch the CVT belt at 70 or 80. The CVT also doesn't really like parking on an incline... I always make sure to switch the transmission into the gear that's the same direction as the car will settle/roll (if the nose is up, I shift into Reverse and let the transmission switch before I place it in park, if the nose is down, I make sure the transmission is switched into Drive before I put it in park so that when the car rolls onto the e-brake (or the engine brake/transmission/however that works) it doesn't put undue pressure onto the CVT...) if I don't do this, it is hard to shift out of park.
I got mine fully loaded and the only problem I've had with it was the service bulletin fuel pump regulator issue. Seeing as I've not owned it 3 years yet and I got a fully loaded car so that in 5 years I wouldn't be tempted by something with features (I had wanted to not have a car payment) I really hope that the Camel will hold out for many many more miles... I had wanted to own it for 7 - 10 years... at this rate the car will have 200k at 7 years... not counting the miles not reflected on the odo (oversized tire package)...
My sig fig and I are considering purchasing another car so we can keep the miles off the Camel but since we already have 3 in the driveway and his '72 Nova is still at his parent's house... ... we are so THOSE people...
('04 Chevy Silverado, Charlene and an '04 Chevy Monte Carlo SS Supercharged, Christine. Both cherry red for those who are curious...) When I first met him we really clicked, but once he showed me his truck and told me her name was "Charlie" I knew it was true love ;oD
