Can anyone tell me how the anti-theft device works on the Versa (I'm planning on getting the SL model)Does it just imobolize the ignition?Does the car send an "alert" somehow to the owner of an attempted intrusion? Is there an alarm that's set off?I'm getting my first car....and it'll be a Versa...so I'm just curious to know how this all works. Thanks!

well i have the sl V...and my alarm goes off as soon as someone pulls the door handle or if someone taps the car....my alarm is the dealer alarm and it has a sensitivity control...i set it just enough to were if someone taps it, it will go off...but not to the point that it goes off with a stereo or with the exhaust of a car....although a mustang set off the alarm earlier....it was a late 60's stang and was extreamly loud

Now I'm confused....according to Nissan's own website , the Versa SL comes standard withand Imobilizer System & Vehicle Security System....So what are people paying extra for?

What type of "Security System" is Nissan providing as a standard feature?

Are the salesman at the dealerships trying to squeeze payments out of customers on this feature that is supposed to be "Standard Equipment"?

what nissan offers is more of an ignition imobolizer....if u stick in the wrong key it wont turn on and shut down everything on the car...causing u to go to a dealer, tow ur car there, and getting it reprogramed....and the other security is just a keyless entry and in case someone opens your door it starts beeping....but it can be bypassed....the alarm they also offer for extra charge, the one i have, has shok sensors...and,supposedly claimed by nissan, added security...

Most factory keyless entry systems will sound the horn if someone opens the doors while it is armed.

They're not as full-featured as aftermarket alarms... but they're also far less temperamental.

Hey, attitude... if you read what I said, I didn't parrot you. Note I didn't allude to the keyless entry system being an ignition disable device because IT ISN'T. the iKey does have an ignition diable, but NOT the standard keyless.

if you've got a shock sensor on yours, you have an upgraded security system. NOT a stock system. Aftermarket alarm controllers CAN be added to most keyless entry systems. I personally wouldn't again with the temperamental nature of them.

Pugmom was clearly asking about the standard factory alarm system. So telling him about your aftermarket system installed by Nissan wasn't really all that helpful was it.

actually marlay...if u would have payed att. pug was asking what peeps wer paying extra for...so i explain the extras u get...actually ev, go to ur nissan dealer and ask...the standard alarm system offered on stock Vs, wether its s or sl, do come with imobilizer....thats standard...if u stik in a copy of ur key that doesnt have a chip, claimed by a couple of techs, it will shut down ur V....

Geez shreq.....read pugs first post. Then read your first reply telling of your aftermarket alarm. That's what I'm referring to.

I did not know about the immobilizer system. I have never seen one on a car before, so I made the mistaken assumption that you were referring to an engine kill device, such as the ones that are integrated into aftermarket security systems.

Immobilizer systems do NOT prevent theft, they just make it harder. Immobilizer systems are also not considered to be "alarms" for the purpose of insurance.

The Keyless entry system, however, is.

By this definition, the S does not come with a security system standard, you have to buy the power package.

But please, in the future, re-read what you're about to post a few times. You come off extremely arrogant and abrasive. I'm hoping this isn't intentional.

I wasn't trying to prove you wrong, this thread is about anti theft AND alarm. They are two separate things on the Versa, I was clarifying in that last round.

I've been trying not to have a problem with you, but your actions make that REALLY difficult. When you post and act like a normal user, everything goes fine. Take for example your eyelids post. That's a great post.

But then you do stupid stuff like in this thread where you got really condescending for NO reason whatsoever, or the REALLY stupid thing you did at the end of the loves2design thread.

Why do all of these threads end up getting filled with bull $hit little cat fights or "my feelings are hurt cry baby $hit??....

Pug, I wish I knew so I could give you an answer instead of adding another BS post to your question.

Okay... let us try this

Stock SL alarm system with I-Key:

Ignition immobilizer (the car will not start if the chip in the key is not coded correctly - if someone tries to force it, the computer kills the ignition)

Sound alarm (If set, either by hitting the lock button or arming after the waiting period, the car will sound off ONLY if one of the doors is actually opened)

Car will beep and flash when armed by the I-Key, but you can mute the horn using the key too (if you need to be courteous to neighbors in a crowded apartment complex)

This alarm system will get you a discount with most insurance companies because of the immobilizer.

Two ways to lock doors w/o hitting lock button (and sounding off the car) 1: lock before you shut the door (duh) and 2: press the request button on the handle (the flashers will go off). When you press the request button, the alarm goes into passive mode, but usually will arm itself after a period of time (I have not tested this). My doors will also lock themselves after sitting for a period of time.
