Versa Antenna?!?!?!?

Post

Hey there, just got me Versa S Sedan 2 weeks ago and have already put a new Sony head unit in it.

The issue that I am having is with the antenna. In the posts that I have seen here I see conflicting information about what to do with the extra black wire that runs along the regular antenna wire.

One guys says to put 5v to it and another says to ground it.

I tried both and got mixed results with each. No matter whether I put power to it there are stations that I could get before with the stock deck that I cannot get now.

Currently I have it setup to line lead power but there are stations that I got before that I cannot get now (and others that did not sound as good that sound better).

I even went to the dealer and looked through their service technicians manual and it did not say what the wire is for.

Has anyone installed a new deck and now has the antenna hooks up to where the radio works well? Does it need power but I am not giving it enough? Was I supposed to ground it instead?

Help!

why don't you buy an antenna adapter?

the blue wire goes to the remote signal lead...by the way, a good reception depends of a good antenna AND a good receiver...

I did buy the adapter and that is how I have it hooked up (to the remote signal lead).

It is really disappointing if this is the best I am going to get from the antenna.

My receiver is good quality. It is a Sony MEX-BT2500 which has handsfree via blue tooth and audio streaming via blue tooth (got it for $159 at Crutchfiled BTW). I would consider this a good deck so I would think that I would get good reception. I actually expected better then what I had before.

Sony makes crap car audio equipment. They always have, and will always get poorer radio reception than other headunits.

I'm sorry but that comment is not helpful.

I have owned several Sony Head units and they have all been excellent - thus the reason I bought another one.

Does anybody have a comment that would actually help my situation?

Wow, Wayne... EVERY review I read says the MEX-BT2500 has great reception.

Perhaps you should keep your opinions and your facts in seperate compartments.

There are some true audiophiles here who would allege that your $80 amp and swapmeet Eclipse subs are "crap". As long as YOU like them, that's what matters.

I'm hoping your future posts are more productive.

It does help you, pull it out, and take it back and get something better.

idano,

Did you ground the black headunit wire?

And... strip the blue headunit wire and solder it to the blue wire on the antenna adapter?

Yeah, that is the way that I connected it although I crimped it as opposed to soldering is. I guess I need to pull it out and check my connections.

Question - where did you connect your ground wire to? I attached mine to the screw that holds in the dash kit.

Yeah, that's where I grounded mine too. Seems to work fine.

It looks like I will be pulling my dash apart this evening to check on it...

Thanks to everyone for helping. I will let everyone know how it turns out.
