When gasoline prices were hovering near $3.00 a gallon ($2.96 national average, $3.20 in California) in July and August this year, the sales of subcompact cars did relatively well. Both in July and August subcompact sales were slightly above 33,000 units sold each month.

Now that gasoline prices are back down to around $2.24 per gallon ($2.50 in California), the sales of subcompact cars have also dropped. Sales reached a little over 22,000 units in both October and November, but the table shows that some subcompacts have experienced sales growth.

In terms of unit sales, the Toyota Yaris comes out on top even though interest for this car has waned a bit, according to cars.com. The Kia Rio and Nissan Versa have actually grown in sales, however, and come in second and third in terms of total sales.
