Nissan Versa 2007 S Manual Transmission: Defrost Problems: Outside temperature 25F. Even with defrost on full fan (4), A/c or no A/C, heat variations tried, all vents manipulated for full function- the side front and rear windows fog to the point of frosting and obscuring visibility. Have to stop the car, clean windows on inside and let car set for ten minutes with heat full blast. Once on the highway the windows fog and frost within 15 minutes and have to stop again. Note that this does not happen in basic town dirving at 35 mph. Vent both from outside and inside tried.

What happens if you crack a window or two? If you're running heat at full blast, you should still be nice and comfortable with one or two windows cracked about a half inch.

I can't imagine driving all winter with windows open and the noise of a full fan. There must be a problem with the system somewhere.

It does sound like a problem.

Our weather's been similar here for about a week, and when I have to scrape the windows I put the defroster on with the heat up about 3/4 and the fan on 2 or 3 while I scrape. Once I'm in the car I back the heat to about 1/2, the fan to 1 and turn off the A/C once the windshield's clear, but leave it in the defrost position. That usually keeps me warm enough and the windshield and windows clear.

If it's warmer and raining, I do have to punch the A/C on occasionally in defrost mode and then again to turn it off when the windshield's clear, but I never have to leave it on. Sometimes I'll open my window a crack and that helps, too. (All the above without being in "recirculate" mode.)

The condensation turning to frost is on the INSIDE of the windows. Our winters include 32F to -20 through February and March with a great deal of highway driving. I called the nearest Nissan dealer this morning and he said to make certain it is not on recirculate, but on outside venting. This seems contradictory. ANy thoughts?

Yes, I was talking about the inside. I was just describing what I run into on a morning with the temperatures you mentioned, but I admit it was a bit confusing.

And I agree with your dealer. When I have mine on recirculate it does tend to fog up more.

If you have it on recirculate, the air will get more and more humid because of your breathing and this causes the fogging. Having it on outside air intake ensures that the air does not get too humid as fresh outside air is continually sucked in.
