Versa 0-60? More than a "lawnmower?"

Incoming...DC Cat Back, Eibach Springs, Stillen Spoiler

Post

So I have slowly upgrading the performance of my 09' 6 speed HB; Nismo CAI, strut bars, and soon the DC cat back and Eibach Pro Kit springs. I know that my Versa has a 122hp (+ 6-8 from intake) and isn't anything to write home about. Each upgrade has made a NOTICEABLE gain in power and handling but my 0-60 time is still around 11 seconds, I doubt I could get it under 10 (this is without the cat back). I'm eager to put on the DC cat back and wonder how much more of a gain I can expect and feel (7-9 hp?).
Has anyone else timed their best 0-60? If so, what was your best time and what enhancements do you have? Without changing out the engine, what is the best our Versa's can do (depending on trim, of course)?

My buddy, who has a V6 Jetta (with turbo), thinks it's "cute" that i'm doing all this work to a "Versa." I know i'll never beat him in a 0-60 straight shot, but i'd like to think that even at it's best, my Versa is more than a glorified "lawn mower," as he put it. Yes, my feelings were hurt. I love how it handles with the strut bars and I know the springs will make it even nicer.

I've heard rumors of a Supercharger and a header by DC, both designed for the Versa, anyone have any info on this?

I know i've asked several questions, and hopefully they are all subsumed by "general" chat...i'd love to post a picture of my V but can't figure out this weird photo upload feature (i'm sure it's simple), any help would be appreciated! :bigthumb:

Thanks guys!

Thx for the info! Here are some old and more recent photos of my bebe. Inside the cabin is an old school "8 ball" shifter in yellow with black gear-shift symbols. Sound system includes an 800 watt amp under the passenger's seat and a dual 12" Rockford Fosgate sub in the trunk + 6" Kenwoods up front :mike It makes nice boom boom.

I will be installing the DC cat back system to compliment my NISMO CAI, and Eibach springs, i'm ready for some serious vroomage (loving the front and rear struts). :woot:

I'm thinking about installing Stillen's "dual wing" spoiler, you guys know the one? It's kind of low-profile but sporty. I'm thinking of keeping it black and coating it with a clear coat or something like that to brighten and preserve the color.

For my wheels I removed the grandpa-hub caps (no offense to those that have them, just being silly) and painted the rims with a jet black engine enamel then installed rounded, black nuts. Goin for that blacked out, rugged look (also don't want to spend $$ on rims, lol). Grill is an unpainted C-mod grill. Love it.

Blacked out signal and reverse lights were done by a local guy, very happy with his work!

Hope you guys like my Versa, i'm really, really stoked to have found this forum! :dblthumb:

Cheers, David

supercharger kit (1.8L MR engine) will be done this year (2012), not 100% sure on the header. I think DC is still bringing it out in 2012.

The DC exhaust will get you another 8hp at the flywheel and 5 whp.

Not sure why anyone would be tooting about a Jetta in a drag race, but the Versa can handle the corners when assembled with decent parts. You're on a good path with your mods.

Let me get my stopwatch out and check. Be Back in 3 days. LOL

You want to know what race you will beat that Jetta in? Reliability! Make sure to rub it in when it breaks.

Promise Land, I have not been on here for a while, but I remember you. I just clicked your blog link, and felt like I did it wrong because of this.

Not sure what you mean unless you are trying to advertise your mortgage blog site.

My Versa sedan gets 0-60 times in the mid 9 second range.

Well the Jetta is by no means a supercar - but yes, having driven one for an extended amount of time, the prior generation's Jetta has a far better suspension and handling characteristics than the Versa.

It isn't all about 0-60, but unfortunately the Versa is probably better suited to more of a 0-60 bragging than actual handling comparison with other cars in the segment (i.e. Yaris, Fit).

Yup, I agree Andrews. My buddy's Jetta is a sport model with special brakes and a turbo. So yea, obviously he's gonna dust me. I'm also curious about the best 0-60 amongst ppl that have the MR18 engine and multiple mods (exhaust, intake, headers, crank pulley, etc)...what's the range of possibility for our lil V's?

Kinda digging the painted steel wheels, I think it actually has a nice look to it. I'm thinking I may do the same thing, I lost three hubcaps in less than a year on my 07, and I really can't afford to buy wheels right now (or probably ever, not when the wife wants all new light fixtures throughout the house, but I digress). Running down to the Auto Zone for some after market wheel covers just won't cut it either, and I don't want to buy factory wheel covers either just to have them fall off as well (apparently this is a common problem).

Anyway, nice work, my friend!

Thanks for the comments! It's super easy to do and I also like the look. Just get some black engine enamel and protect the tire from over spray. I saw a thread where the guy used playing cards to protect the tire, pretty crafty. Then you can use tire shine on the wheels and you're lookin good! Post pix when you're done.

I am looking for new tires/wheels and I have my combo picked out, it's just a matter of the ol' money tree bearing some fruit ;)
