Going to do the clutch.

GO to drain the transmission. Out comes the plug....nothing. not a drip of oil. the plug has quite a bit of shavings on it.

I reach inside the transmission with my finger and its like putting my finger into a box of nails theres that much debris.

I guess the transmission is gone, I have no idea how, because we never seen fluid leaking or anything. It never showed signs of shifting problems or anything.

Fluke that it all happened? I don't know. Last summer I did the transmission fluid and it was filled to spec. and its been driving every single day since.

Here what happened that was leading me to do the clutch work - which there was a thread about it.

Driving out the highway at 120 KILOMETERS per hour. The car is in 5th and for no reason it bucks like crazy a couple of times, and then it doesn't respond to the throttle.

No matter what gear I put it in, its like having it in neutral.

Anyways...I think this is spelling the end of the road for the 240...

Well, I bought the car for 300 bucks US

It has TONS of rust. But the engine is sound. It burns oil in through a ring but its no biggy. The engine has 180k KILOMETERS on it, i think thats what...110-120k miles?

I think her days are done for me, just might try to sell it before having it hauled to the scrapper.

Does anyone have ANY idea where the transmission fluid went?!? Like I mean not a drop came out.

Both plugs were in tight too....can it be at all related to the release bearing....or something.

I can get another transmission for about 200 US with about 85k on it from a scrapper....

TTT

I this answered before I go ahead with another transmission. I wouldn't want to get another if theres a problem somewhere else with reagrds to where this gear oil went.

Not a drip came out of the transmission. Since my knowledge of trannies is nil, is it possible the release bearing completely went and fluid escaped out somewhere else?

excuse my ignorance to this problem...because i honestly don't know.

thanks,

lbrowne

the release berring is for the clutch, not anything to do with the transmission it self. probobly a bad rear seal or something. maby a sensor is leaking.

a new transmission will fix it.

try refilling your transmission and re-sealing the sensors and check the back of the transmission where your drive shaft plugs in and see if its leaking out of there (wipe it all down so its clean refill then drive around then check it to see if its still clean)

you'd be amazed on what can happen when you put gear oil in it tho, it might still be toast but it prob isnt doing anything i.e. being in neutral all the time due to there being no fluid, even after you add it, if it is that bad its still gonna be f#@$ed but it should shift, reguardless i posted that so he could fig. out where it was leaking.id just get a used transmission tho they are dirt cheap then rebuild this one and sell it or keep it as a spare.

The travel time is not really worth it since I can get a used transmission for about 200 bucks with a 3 month warranty :)

Thanks for the offer though.

Is there anything I should look at replacing while I got this sucker out besides the transmission?

id do your slave cyl. and maybe master cyl. while your at it at lest spend the 35 bucks on the slave. and maybe a steel braided clutch line so you can get rid of the dampener
