Are their any benifits to altering the stock bov so that it vents to atmoshphere? All the high end bov's do, so it seems to me like recirc is just more emissions bull#^$&. i'm running stock rb20 i/e 5spd w auto ecu.

its not for emissions.

in a system with a mass airflow sensor, the MAF reads all the air that goes into the turbo then the engine. so it knows how much fuel to add. if you vent your BOV to the atmosphere you have all this extra fuel because it thinks air is there, that isnt

thats why you can get stalling and sputtering after a blowoff when slowing down.

But, when you vent back to the turbine, the goes in after the MAF right? So, in theory, unless the MAF can compensate for what it thinks it will be getting it might be ok. My car has been venting to the atmosphere since I bought it, it was like that. The only problems I have is when I first start it up and it's a little rough. After about 2 minutes, runs fine, no problems.

evidently you know nothing about engine that uses MAF. your engine will stall w/o the recirculation of escaped air in the intake pipe. anyhow, if you simply do not want to recirculate the BOV, just add something like the SAFC to compensate for anti-stall.
