i have a 90 hatch and the clutch on my compressor seem to have fried ( alot of smoke coming from it) and the belt broke off. When i returned to my car and tried to change the vent setting to def from the face setting there was no change. The vents only blows to the face no matter which button is pushed and the only illumination i get is from the temp slide switch.Would this be due there being no belt (or clutch) attatched to the compressor or is this another problem unrelated to the comressor.thanks

Only the temp control is controlled via a cable. As far as the vents changing position, there is a motor that controls that. If you look in the driver's side floor, you'll see the assembly adjacent to the gas pedal. It has probably worn out.

would that be the part i have circled in the attatchment. How difficult would it be to replace and where would i find the part number for the motor.

Yeah, that looks like it. According to the '91 FSM, its called a mode door motor. I don't have the Nissan FAST system on my computer anymore, so I can't give you a part number. Besides, if I were you, I'd just ask for it from someone who is parting out a car. I can only imagine how much it'd cost from Nissan.
