Hey guys, I'm new to the 240Sx scene....and I'm really interested because of this engine (SR20DET).

I've read both the SCC tech articles about the s13 swaps. And I have a buddy that just dropped one in his 200SX

But I have a few questions...

1. What Do most of you guys get (Red, Blue or Black) and why?

2. What are the preferred vendors for importing front clips?

3. How do you know what type of condition this clip and engine is in when you get it? (is it a crap shoot?)

4. How much should you expect to payfor an SR20DET?

5. Lastly, is the engine swap something I could do in my driveway...or would I need to take it to a shop (I'm fairly good mechanically and electrically (engineer)).

Thanks fellas...

also get the red top it is cheaper and can be upgraded easier, unless you want to leave it stock then get the s14 or s15i would reccomend going and picking up your clip so you can ask them questions and see iff the engine has been abused

1. The differences between the red and black top S13 SR20's is year differences. Redtops are older, thus, cheaper; black tops are newer, thus more expensive. If you want an S14/S15 engine, those are really expensive, wiring is more difficult, and they aren't as upgrade friendly as the S13's.2. I'm getting mine from http://www.phase2motortrend.com It's taking a while to get mine because of the aftermath of the strike, but it'll get here eventually.3. Wayne at phase2 has an excellent track record for getting engines. One of the reasons I chose him. He only gets the ones that are in the best shape.4. For a redtop clip, I'm paying $2500. That is the normal price, don't pay less otherwise there may be something wrong, but you can take your chances (that's my opinion).5. I'm doing my swap in my friends driveway, that is the mechanical stuff, then I'm towing my car back to phase2, and they are going to do the wiring for me. I just don't feel like messing with it. Heavy Throttle also has a wiring service for $100. That would probably be the smartest thing.

Hope that answers your questions.

Look, I qualify as a n00b around here too, but it's this simple - READ THE STICKIES. If they don't answer your questions (I know they answer 1 and 2), search the forums. I know the answers would be found, since I've posted them among others.

And to answer number five (you could've found this in a search) - http://www.srswap.com/faq
