I've seen these on eBay over the past few weeks and want to know from the Infiniti community if there is any validity to the claims of increased HP and gas mileage. Please see the link below:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...=true

Isn't that a Tornado knock off? The web is literally riddled with complaints from people who have bought Tornado's or tornado like devices like the one pictured. No they don't work. I actually remember reading a newspaper article (October or November 2005) from a group of consumers suing the makers of the Tornado device for misleading advertising.

Kinda funny they say precision machined blah blah blah ..

I do cnc work on a homegrown cnc mill and quite frankly that looks like its done with a canopener !!!

Im not doubting a vortex may improve fuel mixture , but that isnt precision machining in my ole' skewl book .. just my 2 centavo's

That's what I figured, but I decided to check with the experts! I've been doing a little research on the K&N filters and haven't been able to find the kit that fits the J. When I go on the K&N site and click the link for the kits the only things that comes up are the drop in air filter and an oil filter. Aren't there forced and/or cold air kits for the J? What is the model number and where can I find it?

How can adding a flow restrictor in the air path do any good? They rely on the ignorance of typical owner in the fields of physics and automotive engineering! Especially in helmholtz plenum and runner design....what ever restrictive swirl might be created is LOST by approximately 2.5 times the blade length after the assembly.............long before the plenum inlet.

My $0.02 from my experience.

I've been going with the drop in K&N filter in the J for some years now( 6-7 years). I have noticed slightly better fuel mileage and quicker pick-up compared to a normal air filter. In fact every vehicle I currently have has got a K&N air filter in it.

It's true that the K&N filter allows slightly more dust particles in compared to a normal air filter, but it shouldn't pose a problem as long as you don't live on or drive the car to construction site or live in a dusty region. I do use a normal air filter in the Jeep when I go off-roading.

Remember to clean out the filter regularly(and let it properly dry before re-installing) and replace a damaged one promptly.

I remember reading an article on all those "cold air kits". Most factory air boxes have tubes that snake around to the outside of the engine bay, so that you bring in "outside temp" air (great in winter). But aftermarket "cold air kits" bring in engine temperature air, which can be MUCH hotter than outside air (just put your head in the engine bay next to the exaust manifold). Drop in filter is best!

Although, you could shave 4 pounds of weight off by removing the box and all the plumbing

I wonder if J owners would gain any benefit by converting to a Q45 airbox..... That thing is massive

I got into a car accident a week ago Friday and my car was in the shop until yesterday . When I put my car in the shop it rode a little sluggish and the front end felt a little rought (this is pre-accident). There was also a couple scratches here and there that I would have eventually fixed. Well, I picked up my car yesterday and WOW! It looks great. But, not only does the car look great, it rides better than before the accident! Other than relacing a headlamp, hood and bumper, the also replaced a tie rod and a couple other items I couldn't decipher from the codes.

Since getting the car back, I've noticed more acceleration, as well. I went out and got a K&N filter this afternoon and it got even better than when I picked up the car yesterday. Needless to say I'm very pleased, although now I think I'm developing a case of lead foot I do think there is an increase in horsepower with the filters. I'll know in about a week if the gas mileage improves.

The better test is to see that removing the stock filter [no filter at all] doesn't improve mpg. Because at the rpms where mpg is of concern the filter offers zero measurable restriction to the outside air pressure refilling the engine.

At highway cruise the throttle body is 90% closed [90% restricted] to keep the engine from turning 7,000 rpm.

All the aftermarket companies depend on ignorance and sound to feed their families.
