Hello to all. Here is my dilemma. I bough a 1992 Nissan Sentra a couple of months ago, I got a bill of sale with it and smog check certificate. Now the problem is that when I tried to registered, they told me that is not possible because of incomplete paperwork a G11 in the DMV book. So I been trying to get a hold of the previous owner and no luck, so that is out of the question. I found out, that the vehicle was not registered to the previous owner, he bought it and than sold it to me. I also have tried to get a hold of the previous, previous owner and no luck. Now is there another way to be able to get it registered and get the pink slip(title)?

All help is appreciated. Thanks for your time.

The problem is without that title, there is a chance that Sentra you purchased was stolen or salvaged, which is increased by the fact the seller is avoiding you. I think much will depend on the state you live in, as some states are less ornery about re-titling untitled cars than others. I don't know what state you live in. Since it appears your state's DMV is being uncooperative, you might start with a carfax to see if there's at least a history on your car. But I think your best route is to consult a lawyer to see if they can track down that seller or perhaps locate the last owner (who last registered it) or advise how to get 'r done. Good luck.

I did not think about the carfax. Well lawyers could be a bit pricey and I tried locating the last registered owner, but no luck. I will check on the carfax, to see if I find extra info. I believe it was bough from a towing yard, but don't know witch one. I will take those tips and see If i could get some more info. Thanks for your input.
BTW: I live in California.

This issue varies by state, but in my state if you don't have the title you have to have the last owner it was registered to apply for a duplicate. If you can't do that, you pretty much bought a parts car or a race car, because it's near impossible to get a title any other way, which is dumb but I've found no other way around it.

As said above though, I'd at least consult a lawyer to see if they could possibly even help you with it. That's probably your only alternative.

Wouldn't it pop as stolen at the DMV during the registration attempt?

It would make sense, which is probably why the powers that be don't have it work that way.

You can go through the court system and have a judge make a declaration in your favor.

Youll need a lawyer or a lot of patience.
