Hoping someone may be able to help me here. I don't actually own a Pathfinder but another Nissan from around the same time (2000) which uses many similar parts. I own an E50 Nissan Elgrand which is a Japanese domestic market Vehicle. I am in the UK where these are poplar imports.

My chassis number is: apwe50-003727

https://nissan.epc-data.com/elgrand/apw ... 03727&ref=

The speed sensor listed as being fitted to my Vehicle is part number: 32702-vg219

https://www.amayama.com/en/part/nissan/32702vg219

I can' find any pics of VG219, only sales listings in Japan.

The parts diagram for the APWE50 is at the bottom of this page:

https://www.amayama.com/en/catalogs/nis ... n-unit-514

You can see that under the individual parts it lists 2 under "pinion assembly speedometer", these are 32702-33G19 and 32702-VG219. There is a picture attached to 33G19:

https://static.amayama.com/part/nissan- ... 60-big.jpg

This however doesn't loo like the the pinion assembly from my Elgrand which I have removed to check:

Whilst searching for 32702-VG219 I found this page which lists VG219 and being the same as 32743-74P19.

However google images suggests that 74p19 refers to the pinion itself.

There seems to be lots of aftermarket 25010-74P00 for sale which look exactly like my complete assembly:

I'm wondering whether to take a chance on 25010-74P00?

I've also noticed that Nissan list separate part numbers for the actual components that make up the whole speed sensor assembly. The pinion gear and shaft on mine seem to be fine. I'm guessing that its the part at the other end which contains the actual sensor and magnets/coils or whatever. Maybe I could just swap that bit out for a new one?

Would really appreciate any help with this one.

The -74P00 fits a number of Hardbody pickups and D21 Pathfinders through '97. There are still lots of those on the road, which probably explains why the aftermarket is cloning the part. Those cylindrical VSS's generally have similar internal guts in terms of pulses-per-rev and are simply given a different gear to suit different applications. So if the tooth-count on the -74P00 matches yours, I'd say get one and try it out (the pic you posted doesn't show the end of your gear to count them). They're about $15 US all over eBay here in the 'States, so if they're priced similarly across the pond, you don't have much to lose.

Thanks, Vstar. I took it out again today and had a closer look. Mine has 19 teeth, same as the clone ones commonly on sale. I think the part number used on the Elgrand is only used on on the Elgrand and in particular, 1 variant. This seems odd though as they wouldn't make a part just for 1 vehicle, surely? I think its more likely to do with it being for the Jap domestic market and having a unique part number but in actual fact, s the same as other parts fitted to US/EU spec Nissan's but using a different part number for those.

Here are the pics I took today:

I also wondered about the gearbox oil.... Every time I take the sensor out I loose a bit of oil. Its been out twice now and I reckon I've lost about 1-2 pints or so in total. Where can I find info about which oil to top it up with? Should I be concearned about driving it having lost that much?

Thanks again.

Hmmmm. Looking at the connector I'm not sure if the aftermarket ones look right. I cant remember if the part on the sensor is the female or make part. They look similar, maybe they made it so it can work on a couple of different connectors? Suppose I could just use a couple of pieces of wire with spade connectors on the end to test if it works and then if it does, chop the old connectors off them both and crimp the old one onto the new sensor

Yep, that's what I'd do. If it works using a temporary jumper then you can always chop both connectors off and replace them with new mating H11 connectors or something like that. Two-wire sensors don't care about polarity so there shouldn't be any issues that way.

Right I'll get it ordered and let you know how I get on. Any ideas about the lost oil? Is that a concern?

I bought the sensor. I fitted it, it worked

Had to chop the connector off the old one as it was different. Also, the seal/ o ring on the new one just would go in so I swapped the old one over. No leaks....so far!

Verry happy.

Still need to know about the fluid loss. Each time I've had the sensor out a fair bit of fluid (oil?) Has leaked out. Is this transmission fluid or oil? I know there are 2 different things used in an auto box but I'm not knowledgeable enough about mechanics to know which this would have been which came out.
I have looked at the transmission dip stick which seems to be pretty full. If anyone can shed some light on this if be really grateful. It wasn't oily like any oil I've seen or felt before and cleaned off easily which makes me think it wasn't oil but transmission fluid? I'm not sure which the dip stick measures.

Thanks.

Hi hopefully you see this, im having the same sort of issue but on my E51 elgrand - speedo gauge staying at 0 but the rpm/temp/petrol gauge all working as normal, lights on the whole cluster etc - do you know if the E51 uses a similar sort of speed sensor from the gearbox?
