Hello, guys. I'm new to this forum.

I'm considering Versa as one of my next car option, and went to Nissan dealer today.I test drove one and really liked it.

I went home and took a look at the brochureand on the list of specifications I found the Vehicle Security System for SL.The salesguy didn't talk about this at all, and I couldn't find any information about this on the Nissan website or in this forum. With all the extra options that come with SL, is this security thing worth of paying $1.5K more?

I mean, if you get the aluminum alloy wheels and the audio outside of the dealer, and bear with no front room lights and armrest, it's still be about a gran. So i'm wondering if getting the security aftermarket would be better than the one from Nissan.

Does anybody have any idea?

Well... The main feature of the security system is the engine immobilizer. If you try and start the car with a key other than one with the microchip for your car.. the engine will lock.

The parts are stamped with serial numbers and recorded..

I also found that there seems to be a door tampering device as I accidentally set my alarm off after fiddling with my rear hatch for a few minutes trying to open it when it was frozen shut. It starts the panic honking alarm and is a bit of a pain to shut off

There's also a nice upgrade in inside trim with the SL, but the main reason I went with it was cruise control. I need it with the miles I put on. (3000 per month and still loving it!)

Thank you, but isn't immobilizer equipped on both S and SL models?According to my brochure, they are different things and equipped on both.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about the cruise control. I guess it is a good thing, and I have it on my Mazda now but hardly used it in LA.

The alarm was definently worth it. It was professionally installed, and is installed in all the Nissans, not just the Versa SL. All they do is activate or deactivate it from dealer mode. But yes they do put sensors in the door and a glass break sensor.

Yes the immobilizer is standard on both the S and SL, at least here in Canada.
