I think probably the biggest reason there are so few boosted is because these engines only came in the 92-94 Maxima SE and nothing else. Minus the VTC problem, which can be remedied, they would be absolutely incredible to boost though. Forged crank and rods... the same rods the VG30DE uses with the same bore that the VG's use.

You could use some VG30DETT internals for lower compression, do a custom exhaust manifold for the turbo and have an incredible power producing machine. The one problem that you're going to constantly have is the transmission... our transmissions are pathetically weak. The auto trannies can easily be built up to handle the power but the manual transmissions are a bit more difficult.

Luckily the VE transmission is a little bit stronger than the VG transmission but they still have their quirks, like the input shaft bearing and a small third gear. You could probably get the gears cryo treated and such, which will help a bit. I want to say there is another transmission that a company makes strengthened gears for that might work in our transmissions, but its been a long while since I've been in the Maxima scene that I can't remember off hand if they ever worked out. I'll look around and see if I can find that info for you.

Someday I want to get a VE and boost it, but that will be a while before I do that as I have too many other projects at the moment.

Thanksbesides the transmission, any other reliability issues?

For the VE's, the coil packs are said to be a common issue. The coil pack bodies have a tendency to crack and cause running issues.

Other than that, I can't think of anything else.

I would just use the stock cams. I've read of one person somehow getting VG cams in but they said the minimal gains weren't worth the hassle.

With boost, the stock cams will be more than adequate to toast the stock transmission, then some.

On top of that, I don't know of anyone who makes cam for the VE. You might be able to get a cam company to do a regrind though.

- Custom exhaust manifolds- Injectors- Fuel control of some sort... JWT might be able to program the VE ECU, Apex'i S-AFC (doesn't offer very much control), Greddy e-Manage (very popular with the later boosted Maxima guys), one VE guy was working with Ash-Spec to try to get the Zemulator to work with the VE ECU. I don't know if they succeeded but you may contact Ash about it to find out.- *Depending on your power goals you'll probably need a performance clutch to handle the power- *Lightened flywheel is recommended, they make the engine rev much better (* if you have a 5-speed... otherwise, get a valve body modification (Import Performance Transmissions or Level 10) and consider getting the transmission built up as well as getting a higher stall torque converter)- Fuel pump - Walbro 255 liter/hour pumps are very popular, inexpensive, and will supply more than enough fuel- Piping, silicone couplers, and t-bolt clamps for the intake piping (aluminum recommended)- Aftercooler if you're going to be going for higher boost/power (search for intercoolers, its the improper term but the most common used) I personally like the Treadstone TRV units with the long end tanks, those should be the most efficient.

That's all I can think of at the moment. I'm starting to get a very bad headache so my thought processes aren't working at 100%

This should get you going in the right direction though.

You aren't going to find a cam for the VE30DE... it would have to be a custom grind.

Besides... with boost that engine will make more than enough power on the stock cams. I guaranty it will make enough to bust the transmission without changing the cams.
