IF IT IS THEN GREAT THE SWAP WILL BE PRETTY EASY IF THERE NOT THE SAME THEN CAN I USE A VG30DE 5 SPEED OUT OF ANOTHER MAXIMA IM NOT WORRIED ABOUT EXHAUST OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT I HAVE A MIG AND MY BUDDY HAS A PIPE SHOP.....SO NONE OF THAT WILL BE MUCH OF A PROBLEM .

EVERYWHERE I HAVE LOOKED NO ONE HAS DONE THIS SO I FIGURED ID GIVE IT A TRY .......MY 93 ALREADY HAS A R33 SKYLINE BODY KIT ON IT SO I WANT THE HORSE POWER TO BACK UP THE LOOKS .......ITS FAST NOW BUT YA KNOW .......CAN ALWAYS MAKE IT GO FASTER.....THANX FOR THE HELP AND ILL PUT UP SOME PICS AS I GO AND KEEP EVERYONE UPDATED...CHUCK

Yes, the VG30DETT and VG30DE have the same bell housing bolt pattern.

However, your car has a VG30E. I don't remember for sure if they match or not.

More important, though, is the fact that there's not really room for a VG30DE under the Maxima's hood, let alone a VG30DETT. I would look at turbocharging your current motor or swapping in a VQ.

You have the VE30DE motor. Not the VG30E that is more common in the 3rd gen Maxima. I would HIGHLY recommend keeping that motor and fixing the VTC issue that you most likely have. You can rig up a VERY nice single turbo setup for MUCH MUCH MUCH less than money that trying to swap in the VG30DETT motor.

I've seen pics that a VG30DE motor will BARELY physically fit in your engine bay. But that's the least of your worries. You have a LOT of wiring issues to worry about.

Also, there are people that have a VG30E and have a VE30DE manual transmission on it. But I'm not sure it bolted right up or if any adapter plate was fabbed. So I can't say for sure that a VG30DE will bolt up to your VE Auto RE4F04V transmission.

If I turbocharged my VE Auto (which I'm planning on doing), then I'll be running 11s on moderate boost. I am already setup pretty well to accept the extra power. I have not built up my transmission, but I do have a nice shift kit on a healthy transmission along with a high stall torque converter and transmission cooler.

You're best bet is to swap to a manual if you want to stick with 6-8psi on a nicely sized T3/T4 (ie T3/T04E 60 trim). But for me, I'll never do that since I need a somewhat consistant launch. Plus, you can build boost out of the hole with a high stall TC. Plus, when you are pushing over 350whp, it will be MUCH easier to drive down the track.

But I HIGHLY recommend just turbocharging the VE motor. It's a good motor. It also has pretty much the same bottom end as the VQ30DETT. It has the same crank. I'm sure the VE motor is good for over 400hp on stock internals if it's tuned well. Your biggest worry will be getting your transmission to hold the power.

I would start worrying about how you're going to tune the VE with the turbo. An AFC won't cut it! I've been working with Ash Powers for several years now trying to get the Zemulator working in the VE. But that it pretty much out the window. It will work, but he's just too busy to get it working for me. You can easily get into chip burning with the VE ECU. It doesn't have an EPROM, that is why you gotta do the same thing the SR and KA guys are doing. The 16 bit VE ECU is very similiar to the SR and KA ECUs. Just get a PLMS daughterboard with an EPROM and you will be chip burning in no time.

There is a ton of research that much be done before considering going turbo. But swapping in a VG30DETT is just not a cost effective way to make serious HP. Sure it would be cool to say you have a TT 3rd gen, but you can make more HP for less by going single turbo on your VE.

Also, I recommend buying the book "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell if you're going to design your own turbo kit.

Hey Aaron, welcome to NICO

The VE30 does have the same bell housing bolt pattern as the VG does so the trannies can be swapped but as Aaron and Chris mentioned, the VG30DE(TT) simply won't fit... however... think of the VE as a compact VG30DE. The block is really nearly identical to the VG series engines. It uses the same rods as the VG-DE, has a forged crank, same bore and stroke... you could put VG-TT internals into the VE for a low compression setup for boost. The big difference is the heads are slightly more narrow so that it would fit in the FWD application. The heads are said to not be able to flow quite as well as the VG-DE(TT) stock for stock, but that's not going to limit you all that bad. It will still be able to make more than enough power for a Maxima.

Really, the Maxima's absolute biggest weakness is the transmissions. The manual transmission are simply junk. They must be built up to handle the power that a boosted VE and VG30E can make. Same goes for the auto, though with the auto I believe it would actually be a little easier to build up than the manual. There are supposed to be gear sets out there that will fit in our manual trannies, which will definitely allow it to handle the power output... once you start making quite a bit of power it will be a must or else you'll be constantly replacing transmissions.

The auto transmission should be relatively easy to build up as most are. Most shops should be able to build it up to handle whatever you can throw at it however, I'm not much of an auto transmission guy so I don't know all that much about them. Luckily, Aaron is now here and he really, really knows his stuff when it comes to the auto trannies. Fastest N/A auto VE out there that I know of.
