Hey everyone,I was driving yesterday in the rain on the highway and i dont know what happened but all the sudden the info screen on my car went black with a hazard sign that said vdc, and on the guages the "vdc off" light went on. It went on for about ten minutes. I turned of the car and turned it back on and it went away. Does anyone know what this is? Is this something i should be worried about?Thanx

Normally, when the car is slipping (like in rain!), the "SLIP" light comes on on the dashboard. If you have the VDC off, then I suspect that what you see above is the normal result. But, this is a SWAG, since I have never seen it on my car.

If you did indeed have the VDC off (switch is on the left of the steering column in my 2003 M45), then I would strongly recommend keeping it ON in wet weather ... the car has a lot of power and it would be easy to lose control if your tires are not good in wet weather.

I'm a believer in the VDC- was driving up an onramp to Ohio tpk on a sleety/slushy day, doing 40-50 mph. About halfway up I spotted a Mustang coming up on the highway, so I figured I could beat him and punched it hard.

I *just* started to sense that the rear end was coming around to the right and before I could react, the throttle cut and the brakes started doing a crazy dance of some kind. I could feel the tires biting and releasing, within a second or two, the car was going in a straight line again.

Don't know if the guy in the Mustang could see what happened, but he was looking hard at me as he went by.

*then* the adrenaline rush kicked in

All this info is great but it doesnt really answer my question. Has anyone ever seen there lcd screen (where the climate control and stereo displays are) go black and the ony thing it says is VDC in big letters with a hazard sign? an at the same time the vdc light by the speedometer and the slip light both stay on (i had vdc on when this happened and it went off)???

hrmmm... usually the VDC OFF light and SLIP light comes on when the brake pads are low or if the pads are low and brake fluid is low as well...

Did you replace the rotors or have them turned down? If they turned them down, what was the thickness before / after?

Last night I was backing out of the driveway, put it in drive, and the VDC OFF light came on as well as the SLIP light. Service Engine Soon light came as too. Acceleration was terrible. I stopped, turned the car off. I restarted and the VDC OFF light or the SLIP light did not come back on. Acceleration was back to normal. The Service Engine Soon light is still on though. Will it reset itself, or does the dealer have to do it? Or can anyone with an OBDII reader reset it?

This was on an '06 M45 Sport.Thanks.

Don't reset or you can lose valuable diagnostic info that helps tech find cause!

Take it in to the dealer and have them look at it!! They need to read the codes and see what the system reported.
