Today I was driving on a road that is flat and bump free. I ended up getting stopped at a red light. I was bored so I put it in DS and when the light turned green I floored it and kept my foot down.

The question that I have is when it shifted from 1st to 2nd in DS (I let the car shift) the slip light came on and the power went away like it lost traction... So my question is - is it possible to break the tires loose on an '07 G35X going from 1st to 2nd in DS?

Road conditions - flat, no bumps / pot holes, dry and hot was in the 90's today.Tire conditions - they have 7XXX miles on the stock factory tires and just had them rotated on Friday (thinking this could be why...?) Dealer said that they have 70% tread remaining.

Any input appreciated. I've had the VDC come on going around corners too fast, hitting a little bump / jump while mashing it and getting some air between the tires and road, etc... but never just going in a flat, straight line.

And, no, I'm not complaining - I'll just turn VDC off next time

You want to know if it's possible to break traction in an X? I don't see any reason it wouldn't. Other than the fact that you're divinging the torque amongst 4 tires instead of 2, you've got a lot of power.

It actually not that easy. However it is possible. I remember my oem tires were started doing it around that time(7K). They are good when they are new but once it starts wearing it get worse. My tires lasted around 12k. They were done. I usually had traction loss if I hit pot hole wet surface or oil spill on the road. But even with that just a few spin and it goes. No big power loss.

But what are you doing with the VDC on when the road is dry ANYWAYS.

Didn't we teach you how to do this?

Just kidding.

Hope it helps. I would try to re do it again to see if it will do it. If it will do it try it without the VDC.

You tried this with the VDC on. So the car did what it was supposed to do. It detected traction loss and cut power to keep the wheels from spinning.

If you do this with the VDC off... you should launch rather nicely if you floor it.

So I'm a little lost with your question...

Try to take note of what the RPM's are when it shifts if you experience this problem again.

You may have hit some sand/dirt/oil to make one of the tires lose traction...it's not impossible, just improbable with all wheel drive.

Sorry, I know it did what it was supposed to do if it lost traction. I was just more curious if anyone else has gotten the X to lose traction on a flat dry road while shifting from 1st to 2nd. I guess I was just more surprised that it did it - hadn't happened before

And it does launch nicely

That is probably the best guess.... with it being so hot out part of the road could have been slippery - oil, etc...

Guess I'll just have to try it again....
