VDC off, and anti slide light

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

hey guys,
got some quick questions, not sure if anyone can help me out
for the past about 4 to 6 weeks, my 2010 EX35 VDC off light and the anti slide light will come on. mostly during up hill situation.
when i turn off the engine, it will go off. this happens about 3 to 5 times a week. I took it to the infiniti dealership, they told me its the break fluid. but i checked it b4 going in.
it was between min, and max. but she insists i need to top it off the break fluid. else it will be the break pad that needs to be replaced.
and she won't check it for me, unless i agree on $70 diag fee. not very happy about that.
can anyone give me any kind of advice?

thank you,

Check my thread. I'm having almost an identical issue. Diagnostics were useless as no codes were stored or thrown, at least thats what they claimed.

Still bizarre, no?

I haven't tried the brake fluid. But the lights are not on all the time. When they come on, Turning the car off and back on resets them.

It makes sense now guys...

I went to the dealership for an oil change and tire rotation (prepaid) and they noted down that my rear break pads (original) are 3mm thin now after driving 40,400 miles.
So I told my wife to wait for a few months to change the pads.

So two weeks had gone by and there were 2 instances that my VDC, slippery light that normally turns on and off when you lose traction , stayed on all the time after a hard launch from the stop light.
Turning the engine off and restart it will reset the system and goes back to normal.

Second time it happened , was another hard launch after entering a right hand turn to a 45MPH road. This time what happened was the hand brake light lit up all the time and reset itself after restarting the car.

I guess it is break related then.... Moral of the story, let the brake pads fade away and just don`t do hard launch :rotflmao

wow... i only drove about 28000 miles so far on the original break pad, and my dealership told me i only have 3mm left, and I need to replace them ASAP.
and I found out, if ur break pads are low, your break fluid will get used up faster than normal, which cause the break light, and VCD off light come on, when u accelerate hard, cus the fluid will be low when u do that.
I added more break fluid for the time being, both the break light and the VCD light didn't come on anymore. dealership told me the break fluid should be topped off. so give that a try. a bottle of break fluid cost around $5.00
keep the lights away, but monitor your pads closely, since they might need to be replaced soon.

I will drop buy at the closest Nissan dealership and pick up a brake fluid. I would imagine Nissan basically uses the same brake fluid as Infiniti? My Infiniti dealership is about 30 mins drive versus 10 mins for Nissan. Ate Typ 200 Brake Fluid (DOT 4) ???

Thanks for the info! :)

Hmm....I can't speak to this info on Infiniti specifically, but I've never heard of a braking system which "consumed" brake fluid as part of its normal function--much less when the pads are in need of being replaced. I am wondering if you may have been slightly mislead on this? Can anyone else here clarify?

From all the threads I've been reading here recently, hopefully it is becoming apparent to all of us that low fluid and/or heavily worn rear pads will result in one or more warnings from either the VDC system (which uses the braking system) or the braking system itself.

My rear pads were down to 3MM when I bought my '08 in July, and the fronts had a very slight shimmy, causing me to proactively replace F/R pads and rotors with aftermarket. Wasn't a big job if you're even slightly handy, but I would recommend making sure your brakes overall (and your tires!!) are in good order before winter arrives...especially for those of us living in areas which see white and freezing stuff :)

Cheers,
Tim

The brake fluid isn't getting used, it is getting pushed into the brake pistons since your pads are getting worn down. The cylinder has to push out more to keep the pad near the rotor and therefore is holding more of the fluid, so the reservoir retains less fluid in it.

Ah...that makes much more sense to me. Appreciate the clarification, JMann! :)
