When driving the G50 is the change in valve timing at higher RPMs noticeable? Like a boost in power or a change in exhaust note? Some Hondas that I have driven do have a noticeable change in exhaust note above a certain RPM (like 5000rpm or so). I don't notice anything similar in my Q45 so wondering if it is working. I have a 1994 Q, so it has VVT.

It affects only the intake cam timing and advances it around 2500 rpm and retards it at around 5000 rpm as best as I can remember.

It is discussed in the previous posts.

Go find yourself a straight stretch of road, with no one in front of you and a Honda Accord next to you in the slow lane. Tell the other driver you'd like to race. Hold the pedal to the floor. Your engine should kick arse once it hits about 3500 rpm (you'll feel it) and (paraphrasing Wes) about the time it shifts into 2nd you should have a full view of the Honda in your rear view mirror.

If you're not feeling a boost of power above 3500rpm there's something wrong with your engine, i.e. fuel pump or a few dead fuel injectors. Is your check engine light (CEL) on?

Ha Ha, the car still kicks Accord arse. I'll try to sense the boost in power above 3500rpm next time I'm out. There hasn't been a noticeable change in exhaust tone or power output, other than the usual higher hp/torque at higher rpms...but it is very linear, not a noticeable change point. I thought VVT works like a step function, so I would feel the change point.

Injectors are good (ohm within spec and no other issues) and no CEL. Car idles smoothly. Still have the annoying HLA tick. Fuel pump is humming, so time to change that out...I might check fuel pressure before I do, just for kicks.

Would a bad VVT solenoid trigger a CEL?
