Ive noticed that sometimes my 91 q idles as high as 2k in park and 1 k in drive, and that sometimes usually later in the day, it idles at 1k in park and about 7 in drive.

mostly though, it idles around 1400 in p and about 750 in D.

Is this normal

Another question is: What sensors can be cleaned under the hood. Specifically, my steering wheel is sometimes firm sometimes hard, and it would be nice to see the sensors to make sure they are plugged in correct. I also just want to go through and use connector cleaner on as many as possible.

I did the AT test and it came back OK so those ones seem to be working.

I had two dreams in the last 24 hours that my q was on fire. What the heck? The first time, the engine was on fire and fire was also spewing from the exhaust pipes. In the second dream, I let the car idle too long and it over heated. I opened the hood and it was darn hot. The radiator caught fire, and I very stupidly added water right there. OF course, all kinds of explosions happened. Sometimes my dreams come true so I am slightly concerned but its also kind of funny.

Haven't you done a TB cleaning recently?Sometimes the idle was adjusted before, to compensate for a dirty TB, hence the hi idle now.

Fred...:)

I'd check to make sure you have some slack in the throttle cables. If they were overtightened or the fast idle cam was adjusted (should never need to mess with this) then you can have problems.

Normal idle is 650+-50RPM after warm-up. What you're describing is definately not normal! Keep in mind that you're beating up your transmission and drivetrain in general when you shift in and out of drive or reverse at those RPM levels... I'd get this fixed soon!

We have seen [even heard of] very very very few Q fires nothing compared to US models [like Crown Vic and many other Ford/GM/Chy] [on a % of vehicles on the road] and have seen a lot of Q rear ended and destroyed [dozens] .......thanks to the vapors [from leaky worn out fuel hoses warning the driver long before a problem occurs] and the robust protected design of the above frame fuel tank and the lack of a pass thru solid rear seat divider.Even the Bose Amp problem [recall] just produced smoke.

Not to say it is not wise to all carry a small extingusher you might help someone else.

Flaming cars are scary... saw a 89-93 Maxima on the side of I77 on fire once. I did see a 94-96Q on eBay earlier this year that had burned, but who knows what happened to it. Also had one guy on this list or the yahoo board that had an engine fire, but he had modded the engine bay and put a plastic fuel filter close to the exhaust manifold - definately not the car's fault!
